after changing my automatic to a t56, my rear hatch switch will not work. if I ground it it will work so I know my switch is good. Did anyone try opening there hatch when the car with automatic was in gear? When I change the wiring on the neutral safety switch I had two wires on the bottom of the switch I did nothing with. I was told to let them alone that would make the ecm think it was in gear. So if the ecm thinks it is in gear maybe that's why it will not work? did anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know where those two wires go? The top two were for the neutral safety switch the next two were for the backup lights not sure what the last two are for thanks
The hatch relay grounds thru the auto shifter. You need to find the tan/wht wire from the release relay, and run it to the switch on the e-brake handle so it'll only work with the parking brake set (the GM way) or just ground it and you'll be able to pop the hatch any time like when you're on the freeway.
Almost forgot, if your car was TBI from the factory, just set the parking brake, its already wired up.

Reason: oops, wrong scan...
i pulled my switch out and it has a (1)black with white stipe (2) an orange (3) solid black (4) gray
i know (2) is the poiwer (3) ground
(1) has 12v running thru it when car running but no current when car is off
and (4) i disconnected and the switch worked still so im stuck here
i have an automatic gta with digital dash and the car has to be in park/nuetral and the brake light must be on for the switch to work when car is running
id just like it to work like every camaro i have had, car running park/nuetral switch works
basically id like to delete the ebrake part
im probably just way overthinking how easy this is but im stuck lol
Check that your factory plugs are connected as shown. You might have the E-Brake wire and 1 of the hatch switch wires crossed. ( plugs are the same -or very similar- so it's easy to plug them in the wrong spot.
on my 89 I didn't have to do anything with the shfiter wires for the rear hatch, but the e-brake has to be up for it to work, have you tried it with the ebrake on (or have you changed out the ebrake handle)
I swapped from a l03/700r4 to a ls1/t56.
The only thing I had to do from the shifter wiring was the reverse light and the starter dis-enable. For the schematics above what year are they for?
yes it works fine with e brake on but on all my camaros you just to be in park/nuetral for it to work and id like my firebird to work the same
(also alot of times my brake light wont come on when i pull the e brake)
Schematics are from an 85 or 86. I know that later cars were wired for multiple option combinations and the hatch release wiring could be a bit different in later years.
you just to be in park/nuetral
Yup; As the diagram shows; for the automatics relay ground got passed thru the starter & wasn't applied to the relay unless it was in Park or Neutral,..... Manuals required the E-Brake to be pulled so the E-Brake switch would supply ground to the relay.
If ground was always applied to the Yellow wire on the Hatch Release Relay,..... the hatch release would be functional at ALL times. ( Not a good idea ! )
Yea I figured it out thanks for some reason my car is wired like a manual transmission and I also do t have yellow wires But I’m good thank you for the help
