New tires

I have to get new tires for 87 iroc, wondering what the best tire is to go with? I'm looking at price but more importantly, looks and handling. Car has original goodyear's and I love the look, unfortunately the car sat for twenty yrs so they have flat spots.

Re: New tires

Go onto Tirerack and Discount Tire Direct and type in tire size. Have a look at the selections and get an idea of what you like the look of and price. BF Goodrich seems to be a nice summer tire thats still in a 245/50/16. Maybe Nitto has something??
Between the 2 sites there will be a tire that you will like.

Re: New tires

I have the summer-only BF Goodrich Comp Sport 2's on mine. They are good, a very popular tire on the forum, and not too expensive; but with my application (400ft lbs of torque at the wheels) they still spin easily. As you shop pay attention to all of the specs. You'll find that a lot of the tires vary greatly in real width.

Re: New tires

Daily driver or sometime cruiser? Any driving below 40 degrees? I've had the Cooper RS3-A on my 1985 IROC five years. 25000 miles later I am still impressed with the tires, including most of two Power Tours, The Tail of the Dragon, and lots of twisties thru the WV, NC, and VA mountains.

You might look at this:

Cooper also makes a summer tire in the RS3. I went all-season due to the WV climate as I will drive it when it is cold but put the car away when the salt hits the road.

I would buy again in a heartbeat.

Re: New tires

Shop around, depending on the tire you end up selecting, discount tire direct or tire rack may not nesecarily be the cheapest. I bought some of the newer cooper rs3 g1's which are an all season tire from a website that is basically an Amazon competitor. I haven't driven the car on the road yet since the muffler needs to be welded back on and taken in for emissions testing.

Re: New tires

Thats a good idea. Search the net for the best price on the tire you find. Also call Summit and Jegs, they both have beat-a-price guarantees, and offer free shipping. That can help the pocketbook.
