These are the RPO codes I found on my sticker. I've decoded most of them but there's a few I can't seem to find any info on when I Google them. Hoping someone here can help fill in the blanks! Also is it just a T/A with the WS6 option added, or is it a formula? I realize this is probably one of those tired ol' questions but I'm more familiar with first gens than I am the 3rd gens so I appreciate the patience!

I'm surprised it has the M39 T-5 instead of the MK6 one - I thought all of the LB9/5spds got the MK6 in 88 & up unless it was a convertible.

Usually MK6 =3.45/3.42 gears and M39 = 3.08 gears.

The 2.74 first gear rumor died HARD.

It's time to put this one to rest as well.

It's filling in, so I take it that it's just a T/A opposed to the formula trim?

Yes, it's a Trans Am and not a Formula. Formulas will have RPO W66. They will also have a completely different VIN prefix of 1G2FS.

Hi "NewTo3rdGens",

Could you take a photo of the Service Parts Identification (SPID) label from your Trans Am and then post it here?

I believe that it is adhered to the inside of the center console. (between the front seats)

Thank you.

It was rumored for years that the MK6 had a 2.75 1st gear rather than the 2.95 1st gear ratio it actually has.

These rumors were started because GM's own literature stated it and every magazine copied and pasted it. I believe that it was a misprint repeated over and over. Even today, you can go to the GM Heritage site and look up '89 Camaro specs and see it written there in GM docs.

Nobody had said anything about 1st gear. But now that I know, I'd be more than happy to tuck it in & turn out the lights.
