Re: Where to get a carbon fibre hood(stock looking)
you may not understand a carbed third gen that has been modified (aftermarket intsake manifold etc)can not use a regular flat hood.cowl hoods look great on cars that are carbed.i do agree a 6 inch cowl looks ridiculous especially on an injected car that can easily run a flat hood. this is not a tall air cleaner and it almost hits my 2" cowl hood.a flat hood would NOT WORK. also,i should mention this hood was already on my car when i purchased it but Ive grown very fond of it,cool air = more power.yes,i will get it painted to match the car when funds permit.

You are wrong. I have a carbed set up and it fits really well under my stock hood.
Re: Where to get a carbon fibre hood(stock looking)
I was really shocked, but my RPM Air Gap and 1.5" drop base fit under my Firebird hood, even poly engine mounts. Looking at the fender lines it looked impossible, but, it fits with about an eighth of an inch to spare.
Re: Where to get a carbon fibre hood(stock looking)
Be careful.... The underside of the fiberglass hood may not provide as much clearance as the stock hood.
I once had a ZZ4 with RPM air-gap intake and Barry Grant carburetor. I was able to close the latch with a base model Firebird hood. I wouldn't describe it as 'fitting' as much as it pinned down the air cleaner like a wreslter going for a three count.
Re: Where to get a carbon fibre hood(stock looking)
maybe i need to have a closer look,i do like the look of a stock hood and dislike a severely hi rise hood.some of the 2-3" cowl hoods arent so visibly obtrusive though.
i cant really bond with a lot of the ram air hoods unless they are on a 4th gen but ive seen a couple that are a little more subtle.

I agree I have a hard time wanting a cowl hood. It seems it's what everybody does and I hate the look(although once in awhile I'm impressed).
Re: Where to get a carbon fibre hood(stock looking)
did you ever look into the discontinuation of the l69 due to fuel boiling?(carbed v8 in third gens)it has a lot to do with lack of airflow and heat being caught up under-hood.cool air means more power in the end.fuel boiled and caused havok

Ive always wanted to do an original lt1 in a 3rd gen however, how does it run?it should go like a scared ape if its built along the same lines as the original 70 solid lifter lt1
