I was looking at the MSD 6AL digital ignition with the rev limiter box for my 1987 Formula with a carbureted 383 stroker with absolutely no electric anything it is running fully on it's own. How would I make this work and what all will I need to make this work and how do I hook this up. Thanks
What made you go with the digital 6AL vs the standard 6AL? Did you do much research to see what the differences were? I'm wanting an MSD box as well, but I haven't bitten the bullet either way as i'm not sure what makes the digital box that much better??
unless you are blessed with a 500-600+ horsepower smallblock , a properly setup hei is simpler, cleaner and easily works as good as it will ever need to to do its job.
msd boxes just add more electrical connections, complexity and another thing to go wrong.are you racing?do you need a rev limiter?is there a reason for your purchase because if you have a relatively stock car it will do nothing other than add weight.
if you have a turbo and need to pull timing,go for it.if you need a 2 step
and rev limiter ,go for it.if you drive around your neighborhood dont bother.
yes it will, absolutely.if you are using nitrous or need a boost controller because of a turbo/blower then you might want to look into an msd or equivalent but if you are running a relatively mild 383 with a carburetor then a good hei with a good module, cap, rotor, wires and hotter coil will support 400+ horsepower pretty easily.here is my setup running a performer rpm and a holley 650 dp.
The digital 6al low rpm multi spark is nice and the soft touch rev control is good insurance if your racing. If you don't want to spend the coin msd has a street fire version also. There's a good chance your car already has hei
