I heard the holes to Mount the crossmember on 82 and 83 f-Bodys is different to the later years.
Can anybody help me in This and tell me the different?
Maby anybody has Pictures?
I swapped an th2004r in the car and Need a new crossmember.
I looked for the umi crossmember with the torque arm bracket but donīt know if it matches the holes.
The 200 (a COMPLETELY different transmission from the 200-4R in EVERY WAY except the name) as was used in 82, was shorter than the 700 and the T-5 that was used in later years; therefore there's a pair of holes that were needed in later years, that weren't present in 82.
Your situation depends on what car you have.
Best bet is to pick up the phone (yes, I know, quaint and old-fashioned, but still surprisingly effective), and talk to UMI, Founders, maybe others, see what they have to say. They'll know what's required.
I'm guessing those are the 2 extra holes (1 each side) on the frame rails that's on the newer cars 83-92?
2 a side on the 82 and 3 per side on the 83-92?s
So out of the 3 holes, the 82s would use the front 2 and the 83-92 uses the rear 2? each would leave a front or rear hole open if the 82s had the 3rd hole?
Or does the 82 have 2 bolt holes farther forward than the 3 holes used by 83-92 cars?
Hi. I have a 1982 trans am with the 200c in it and swapped to an th2004r. I have to holes on each side in my frame and i can't call umi because im from europe. I wrote them but still waiting for an answer. Hope anybody here has done this.
82 rearward holes are the same as the front 700 holes.
TTA has the late model frame holes but the same trans mount setup as 82.
So I'm thinking the TTA crossmember will cover all 3 of the factory mounting holes. May need to drill out the middle of the trans crossmember for the 82s rear mount holes but no big deal. (make the tta crossmember look like the 92 hawk crossmember on the left in my pic.
I really need to see the 82 rails and holes with measurements. It's been a looong time since Ive seen those
