Im looking at the BMR track pack torque arm. Im putting a 4l80 in so i have to do something different with the torque arm. Anyone used thos or another brand. Ive tried search and havent came up with much. Thanks
I have a midwest chassis tunnel mount in my 4th gen bracket car. If you drive your car a lot on the street, I would recommend one of the "long arm" style setups that uses a new trans crossmember and mounts the torque arm there. The tunnel mount arms are great for weigh transfer, adding another crossmember to keep the tunnel area tight, and to get your instant center dialed in easy, but on the flip side they are VERY noisy. Of all of the parts I put on my car that put street manners to the side the tunnel mount arm is the one part that stands out. It has a ton of creaks and bangs through the floor now, and it's right under your butt where it does it, as well as if you have ANY gear noise out of your axle, the tunnel mount arm will transfer it directly into the cabin and amplify it a lot. For a car that I only drive really at the track and sometimes to and from the track it's not a deal breaker, but if I did a fair amount of street duty I would definitely go with a longer arm that mounts further up and uses the original frame mounting points at the trans crossmember.
Well since I’m goimg with a 4l80e mounting it on the cross member isn’t an option because it sets back farther than stock. I’ll look into fabbing something up maybe.
Would you mind posting some better pics of the 4L80e in there? I'd like to see how it fits/hangs down, clearances...
I'm "considering" putting a 4L80e in mine (as in I have it, I've built it up, have a converter and controller for it... but am still debating if I'm willing to deal with the size/weight).
My solution started as a Jegster adjustable TA (tunnel mounted), but I didn't like it for a number of reasons and modified most of it. The axle side is quite bulky and my Moser 9" is also and moves the TA mount outwards so I ended up making my own TA/axle bracket. The tunnel mount got in the way of my parking brake cables (I'm using 4th gen style rear brakes and an oddball combination of cables to make it work) and I didn't like the way the jegster DS loop fit so I ended up modifying the tunnel mount to both clear and made the loop part of the front of it. I ended up modifying something with the TA also, but I don't remember what, it was a couple of years ago... funny thing is that most of the bag of hardware that came with it is still sitting on my bench in the garage.
As far as what I ended up with I'm happy with it, it clears everything, I didn't have to bash the floor pan in like most do, works/launches well, it's no louder on the street than stock (and I have a _quiet_ exhaust on the car, it might be quieter than stock). OTOH, it's more custom then Jegster now...
I don’t actually have it installed yet. That’s the pic from PA RACINGS website. That’s where my cross member is from. I got sick of breaking 700r’s, I went through 5 or 6 I can’t remember. But all were far from stock. That’s why I wanted the 4l80e. For strength and the overdrive. It’s being bolted up behind a dart headed small block with an S480 turbo.
Yea, my experience is that 700's seem to be pretty durable when original with a few mods, but once someone rebuilds them they don't last at all, even with the same mods.
