Rear Caliper Slide Pins

I have a 83 Z28 with a transplanted 87 305 TPI. I also replaced the drum brake rear end with a disc brake rear axle from a 86 Camaro. During my rebuild, the rear disc brake caliper slide pins were rusted, heavily pitted and not in great shape. Simple fix, just replace them with new. No, they have been discontinued. Got the last set from Rock Auto, Advance, NAPA, O'Reillies, Auto Zone, Parts.com, parts Geek, and any other place I could find are out of stock. Found some on Ebay, but man those people want upwards of 65 dollars for a set. Saw a set for 20 but they were sold. Does anyone know if someone is making remakes of these? I checked Hawks, but I could not find them listed.

Any chance the front ones might work?

Re: Rear Caliper Slide Pins

Looking at pictures of complete replacement rear calipers for an '86 on Rockauto, next to the replacement front caliper slide pins, 84 1LE might be onto something.... they definitely at least look identical in design, don't see any info about sizes though. Knowing GM, safe bet to say that they're interchangeable. If your front calipers are readily accessible right now, probably worth taking a couple minutes just to see if they'll fit. If they do, you're in luck, because GM used the same front calipers from thirdgens on pretty much everything in the 80s, good shot that your local parts store will have the pins for 'em in stock, probably in the Dorman Help! section

Re: Rear Caliper Slide Pins

The front pins are 5/16 diameter, 7/16-20 threads, 4-3/8 long, shoulder length 2-7/8, length of threads 3/4 (19mm)
The rear pins are 5/16 diameter, 7/16-20 threads, 4-5/8 long, shoulder length 2-7/8, length of threads 1/4 (6mm)
2 different part numbers in my 82-92 F Body Parts manual (dealer parts book)
The picture is the type of caliper I have - replacing what came on the rear end when I purchased it several years ago. Thought about different rear calipers but I bought a new set and was given another new set by a friend. Don't want to have to buy new ones again and not sure about fitment on the rear end.

Re: Rear Caliper Slide Pins

The front slide pins seem to be universal throughout the years. In example the Dorman HW5004 are front pins. The replacement ones I need are H5014 (Carlson as a example). I guess my style caliper was only used for a couple of years.

Based on that, reduce thread length, shorten pin length, and they might work? Who has a side by side image?

From oreillys site. Those cast iron calipers were used on third gens from 82-88, 89-up are the PBR aluminum calipers, but i cant imagine GM only used those particular calipers on 3rd gens though.

They were on 2nd gens for sure. I think that's where they first appeared. Maybe a few G bodies later on butt don't take my word for that.

Re: Rear Caliper Slide Pins

They were never used on g-bodies. They were never used on B bodies. They were never used on D-bodies. They were never used on the S or t series trucks. All that's left is possibly Cadillac models, but I do not see how that helps parts availability. Bottom line is there are better design and newer, and more available parts, in case someone is going to retrofit.
