rear disc brake caliper

Camaro Z28 - 84
If I order only a rear disc brake caliper, do I need to request a side (right or left). Are they identical?

Re: rear disc brake caliper

Generally, I would think they were different, but I see a schematic, and one is mounted opposite the other, so maybe they are identical. But I can't say positively. Sorry. Interesting question tho.

82-88 the cast iron rear calipers were the same, was it 88-89 when they started introducing the rear PBR calipers which had left's and right's.

Re: rear disc brake caliper

I'm basing this on memory but the early rear disc calipers were the same left to right. D/S caliper is mounted rearward of the disc while P/S is forward of the disc. Allowing the casting to be the same and keep the bleeder "up". The cables orient from opposite directions too iirc.
