Teal 92 formula 350 w ttops
Accidentally stumbled on to a teal 92 formula 350 with ttops i just couldn't live without. (like i need another project)
Started talking with the (2nd) owner about a month before the car showed up. The more we spoke, the more i thought i needed the car.
The car has 50k ish miles, was repainted early on in its life due to peeling paint and a minor accident that resulted in a scratch. Paint isn't the greatest but it's good enough to drive. The door decals were installed way wrong, no rear bumper decal and the sail panel birds weren't quite right. All that is fixed now. Tires are the wrong size, may go with hawks 17s. Had a few broken connectors with blue zip ties under hood from the inj replacement. Wish they would have replaced them all, so I'll be buying/installing those soon.
The car needs a serious top to bottom detail. I'm fighting the urge to modify it. I have factory 1LE brakes and a aluminum driveshaft ready to go.
I'd love to do a car like lingenfelter would have done back in the day. 383/396, alum heads, cam, exhaust trans work rearend ect. Another vintage build, but not sure i want to with this car.(yet).
Roy at door to door took care of the shipping for me. Everything was great but wish there was more communication from the driver when pickup happened and about delays, (because of rain/snow).

Replaced several brittle connectors (iac not shown) that had blue zip ties all over the connectors and sensors holding things together.
Another Firehawk clone?
Some wipe down started. Mis-matched wiper blades replaced. nos pcv installed. Need to address the alternator and upper hose/clamps situation

It's not really a NOS belt, more like a day 2 replacement.
I have a picture of a NOS belt in my "it has begun" build thread.

Very nice.
What's with all the room in that shop? That's a situation I'm very unfamiliar with.

That garage is awesome. Even w/o all the killer stuff that's in it!
Love the yellow Firehawk project car! I want an audio/fvideo clip of that at some point! One of the best sounding combos ever, IMO

Re: Teal 92 formula 350 w ttops
That's awesome. There was a teal 92 I tried to buy back in '16, it belonged to a gentlemen I knew who bought it new. After he passed his wife sold it, I remember it having paint issues and the guy having the roof resprayed. When I went to look at the car the paint was coming off the roof in pieces, poor adhesion to the metal. At that point, car that age its in for a repaint. The people wouldn't budge on the price, so I passed on it. Any case, look forward to seeing your progress on it.

Re: Teal 92 formula 350 w ttops
the window sweep had a nasty notch in it so i took some time to replace it and the door seal with nos gm parts. They were both showing their age. The door glass was tinted at one time so i also cleaned up the door insides and lower glass that still had some goo on it.

Will definitely have to deep clean these wheels.. or go with Hawks 17" ?? either way, original 1LE brakes will be back there.

Re: Teal 92 formula 350 w ttops
Dug out the aluminum driveshaft i bought for my 89 formula 350 back in 96. (upgraded to larger aluminum 3.5 lingenfelter) installed new spicer u-joints, and ready for install into the teal unit.
Not sure why these formulas never got the jg1, esp with all the other lightweight parts used. (I know about CAFE stuff but still)

Re: Teal 92 formula 350 w ttops
The F-body cars came with the JG1 aluminum driveshaft for US EPA C.A.F.E standards. JG1 couldn't be ordered as an option on a F-body and only came standard equipment with the 1LE performance package. All the other cars that got a JG1 were big fat porkers like the Trans Am / GTA and Z/28 / IROC-Z ordered with every single option you could check off on the order form.
91/92 Formulas being lighter and more aerodynamic got a little bit better gas mileage and could sneak under the EPA C.A.F.E standards without a JG1 aluminum driveshaft. The 91/92 CC1 T-top Formulas with the lighter black PW7 cross lace wheels could still manage to sneak under the EPA C.A.F.E standards without a JG1 aluminum driveshaft.
GM could meet the fuel economy standards without the JG1 aluminum driveshaft and it saved them a few bucks not using it so they didn't.
It would have been nice if GM would have offered the JG1 aluminum driveshaft and T45 aluminum hood as an option you could order. GM could have made a profit off selling them and improved their C.A.F.E numbers.
Edit: It's also kind of like J41 cast iron rear drum brakes and J42 aluminum rear drum brakes. You couldn't order them and they came in no option package. You got them based on GM whims. Even when GM ran low on rear disc brakes and gave you a credit option down grade to rear drum brakes on cars supposed to be equipped with J65 4 wheel disc brakes. Some cars got J41 cast iron and some got J42 aluminum.
If I had to guess it was also because of EPA C.A.F.E standards.

Guess i should have pointed out that i understand how the cafe bs has become just another over bearing government thing.
You'd think with all the lighter weight parts that jg1 would have been included with R6P like it was with 1LE.

All those special light weight parts probably came at a cost premium compared to their heavy steel counterparts. If marketing and finance tell you that cannot pass that cost on to the consumer, you are in a real pickle.

In late 91-2 you could get the 350/ttop on the formula 350 but the black diamond spoke wheels became mandatory to keep weights inline for cafe. Or they just had a surplus of them and didn't want to order more formula wheels

Re: Teal 92 formula 350 w ttops
Had some time for a little drive and some maintenance today.
A/C line leak or coolant leak, lot more cleaning needed when I get time to pull it apart
Local X Pontiac dealer, may have something VERY cool soon
