On its way home!

22k mile 1987 GTA. Paddle Mirrors and non-dimpled wheels! One of the first 200 GTAs ever made. 5.7 with oil cooler, black on black. I will be taking it to the Pontiac Southern Nationals! I hope to see y'all there!

It's very good but I need to fix a few paint issues to get to that level. I won't go to the TA nats. I'm in Dallas and don't have a trailer

Re: On its way home!

What's the story with those mirrors? I've only ever seen one other car with them and always wondered why it had them.

When is PSN? I haven't been in like 25 years, when it was at the Renaissance in Richardson. I think there was one at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, maybe around 2002-2003. I remember I had my '02 SOM WS6 at that one.

I just learned about these recently as well, pretty neat. They're the DD9 code mirrors, and I believe the US only got them in '87. 88-92, they were only on some export cars. There's a couple recent threads that mention them in the History/ Originality board, think from January and February

Its my understanding that the first 200 87 GTA in the US got these mirrors, then they switched to the standard mirror we all know and love. They are also an export mirror for countries that require folding mirrors. I have a manual set in blue if anyone wants a set, lso from an 87 GTA. Most people say they are ugly and hate them everytime they are brough up in conversation.

I really prefer the standard mirrors though as the paddle mirrors just look out of place. They're still a really cool piece of history for these cars and it's neat to see cars with them.

Yeah I believe the number is 246 in USA if I remember correctly. I remember seeing reviews of the GTA when they came out and had these mirrors. They were trying to make the car more euro looking with the BBS style wheels and paddle mirrors like the BMWs had at that time. People complained they are too noisy at freeway speeds so they were stopped by Jan 24 1987. My car was built in November so I am fairly certain it was less than 200 made. Maybe even first 100. The wheels were changed mid year in the 87 run to have dimples near where they meet the silver rim. Those are very rare in this shape. The car was a bit pricy but I believe it is an awesome combo. I normally have had ttop cars but I didn't want the rattles and leaks when washing it. I'm OG so this will go to my son when I pass on.

I like them because they are special and the way the designers wanted it.
