Hello, Swap car 92 rs 350 auto, donor car 2000 z/28 ls1 t-56. I have UMI 2410 motor mounts and 2239 crossmember. I have the motor set in place with mount bolts loose for adjustment. I have about 7/16" clearance from the oil pan to the k member with the motor slid forward as much as the motor mounts will allow. They are maxed out forward. The motor sits level and square in the bay. The problem is the crossmember. It seems the pad for the tranny mound area is about 1" too far forward and i cant move the motor any further forward or the pan will hit the k member. Any thoughts?
It is always a battle finding the best "spot" for everything to bolt in. If you've exhausted all efforts you can make an adapter for the trans. Take a piece of 1/4" plate and drill two holes. One for trans mount, one for crossmember. Sorta like an extension plate. You could also lengthen the mounting slots on the crossmember so that it too can slide more.
Thanks, Shifty. I had the extension plate idea as a plan "B". I dont have enough meat there to enlarge the slots without weakening the crossmember. I was just wondering why It was so far off and if other people had this issue with UMI motor mounts and crossmember. I thought getting the motor set was going to be the hard part. That was easy, only took about 35 min to get the motor bolted in.
I think the problem is that trans mount. It looks like the Hawks piece. I had the same issue with mine. Had to modify all the holes to make it fit. In the end i just ended up modifying the stock x-member
