Any pointers? I have a converter, Just looking for a stock rebuild. Its probably going behind an LB9, so it doesnt need to handle mass amounts of horepower. anyone do them? or have a suguesstion on where to go?

Depends...

Do you want it to be super reliable? I payed a little less than 1000 bux for my "stock" rebuild. I then spent another 125 on a very nice custom shiftkit setup. I know a guy who will rebuild them for 400, but they are "not-so" reliable

Well yeah Id have to vote for "reliable", as in it has to work properly.

It isn't cheap

My tranny is damn near bulletproof, the guy does really good work. Like I said, cost me a grand.

Mine ran me EXACTLY $1089, installed, with a 2100stall, after tax, and that's including replacing my motor mounts which I know isn't exactly transmission related, but it's all on the same ticket.

Bench job or R+R?

A very good friend of mine that used to build trannys for living--now teaches at Universal Techinal Institute (or whatever the name of the place is that teaches auto repair) A few months ago when I talked to him, he told me that they are always (well sometimes) looking for cars to use as teaching aids in the classroom. Call and see if the transmission class wants/needs a 700 to rebuild. Ask about when/where/ how much ETC.

If that does not fit your agenda--Yellow pages--make a few calls.

If it's a stock build (I know i'm going to catch some flak for this one), believe it or not, U can get a good price from "Thunderbolt" or similar places (they will swap off the shelf OR rebuild yours and use better quality parts on request including shift kit), if U can find some body in the auto repair business to get it for U at their price. In fact almost any tranny shop will give a drastically discounted price to a repair shop rather than retail customer. When I was manager at "Mr. Transmission"--we would do 350's for around 300 +/- for a bench job, where we charged 600/700 or more, retail. It may be a little hassle to get it all lined up, but if U need to save money--that's the way!

If that does not fit--Earl Hughes Transmissions--not sure how cheap--but I know you will get it done RIGHT--He's the only I can truly recommend and if and when it comes time, is the only one I will go to, unless I can get the guy at UTI I referred to earlier to do it.

Good Luck!
