CAM + Engine Help
ok i've finished installing a new cam
SUM-1107 - summit racing cam...
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...artSearchFlag=
into a new rebuilt 305 bored 40 over engine
got an eprom chip made for the stats of the cam... and still having problems.. car won't start.. this one mechanic told me it could be my valves "stock rockers" that are on too tight...
i also think its the timing.. can't find it...
well i'm trying different stuff and running out of ideas...
help thanks

More help can be given when you add more detail on the "no start" issue.
What are you doing and how is the engine responding?

What exactly are the symptons, do you have spark, did you check your timing. If you set the valve lash your the car wouldnt start do to the valves being open to long or vise versa. Also try posting this in the Tech and General engine board youll get alot more responses. Good Luck.

ok well
when i try to start it..
IT cranks and it sounds like every once in a while it gets a good spark and wants to start... but i think i have the key turned on to much it floods itself with gas...
theres spark becuase i've had it running before but i don't know if the guy who was trying to fix it with me "re-adjusted" the valves..
but today when i turned them down 1/4 of a turn to the left " loosing them" it started alittle better "heard more loudness" lol (running straight headers)
thats another thing.. my friend thinks we need to put some pipes and the mufflers on to create some back pressure. he said that might be it...

You have NO compression!!!! Get a compression test gauge, and back eack rocker stud nut off until you get compression (you'll know when you get full compression). Turn the motor over with the coil DISCONNECTED while doing this. when all cylinders get compression, hook the coil back up and start it, it should work fine. If the rockers are making noise, just tighten them a bit at a time until they stop (or leave them that way if it's only slight and you don't mind the sound...). Good luck.

There are meets that some of us go to, it's usually not just 3rdgens though. In Humble there is one at Sonic on 1960 and Aldine Westfield. There is one at SAM's CLub in West Houston. And there are ones that we plan ourselves. Let me know when it's up and running good, we can hit the track (I've got some heads in the works right now I'll be swapping soon).
