thinking about some headers........

I am thinking about getting some headers. I'm not to sure if I will but I have about 800.00 to spend on some real nice ones. If I would go that route what would you guys recommend?

Hooker super comp shorties--don't waste your time with any others.

Summit part #: HOK-2055HKR

As far as I remember, they are the ONLY equal length shorty headers! A big selling point! and from personal experiance, they fit great--very easy to get in and out. (somthing U will appreciate later on down the line.)

If U want to spend the rest of the 800.00, might want to think about a flowmaster cat back exhaust system with a good muf. A good muf is always desirable!

Uhh......muffler that is!

are they...........

Are they ceramic coated? All I see is steel painted.

The car alread has flowmaster on it. It is probably about 10 yrs old but it still sounds pretty damn good. lol

About how much hp will I get from the headers I was told that i could get up t o .6 seconds. Is this true?

If I where to update the muffler on it what would be my best bet? Borla?

Not suer about coating or if they are available in ceramic--U can always get them ceramic coated locally-- there is a place here in town that does that, or go the the flowmaster web site and double check the application part # for your car (don't go by my word!--U need to double check part #'s and application yourself!!!) or go to the exhaust board here in thirdgen.org and post a question about ceramic coating and where is best place to get it done.

Muffler--I think the flowmaster 40 series is what U want, but again double check that info on the exhaust board--according to what I have heard the single inlet and single outlet is actually better than the sual outlet, as far as flow rate--check that at flowmaster web site!!!

I have a set of SLP 1 3/4" stainless shorties w/ y-pipe, I'll sell you.

They worked great on my '82 and I would still be using them if they would fit with my current heads.

IMO they are the best shorties out there.

I also have some other shorties variously sold under the "Black Jack" and "eagle" names. Good working condition, y-pipe missing 1 small piece, $40.00.

Hey Mike just FYI Autozone just started selling paint specific for headers. It's ceramic paint comes on red blue white black...temp rating on its pretty high. It'll save you a buck on getting none coated headers. IMO you can still purchase a set starting at a $100, still run good and get a good amount of HP and TQ out of them just depends on the pipe size and what size exhuast you have to follow it. Long and short is just a matter of exhaust i ran long on my 83 but i had to get the y-pipe special made because i went from a 2 1/2 collector to 3" all the way back. over all with headers i spent about $650 and just wrapped my headers. $100 for the headers 1 5/8 tube and 2 1/2 collector. $550 exhaust y-pipe 2 1/2 dual in cat 3" single out mandrel bent over axle flowmaster 80 series crossflow two chamber muff. single in and out 3" sounded f'n nice (MAN I MISS HER!!!). Hope this helps

Hey dude

I would definately check out what ESC has to offer, before U go spend bucks on nw ones! And f U just half to have them ceramic coated there's a place called Speciality Coatings here in Hou that does that, and others I'm pretty sure--check throught the yellow pages or maybe BlackWidow can help.

I keep forgetting he works at Autozone--I would take advantage of his knowledge and expertise--especially since he lives out in your neck of the woods!!!

I would check out those SLP headers from ESC. I have a set of SLP 1 5/8" on my car and they work great. I had them ceramic coated at American Coating Specialist which was owned by Dave Hamilton, an ex thirdgen guy in Humble. I don't know if it is still open but I have his number if you are interested. They did a good job for a good price.

I had not fit problems with my 1 5/8" but I hear some people do have problems with steering column clearance with the 1 3/4". I got the 1 5/8" because according to John Lingenfelter you dont need 1 3/4" unless you above like 400 something HP.

I don't think he is interested in THOSE headers. He was asking about the SLP's.

You can see them and a bunch of other stuff I don't need anymore here...
