LSRP is closed! :(
Maybe for good, at least until further notice.
I don't have any details about the when or why, except that the current owner only owned it for 4 months and has called it quits.

Their website has been replaced with a like to the drag strip in San Antonio. That web site mentions that LSRP has been closed.

In all reality, i guess we should look on the positive side. We are very fortunate that we still have 2 tracks in the immediate area!

Here is a quote from the HFB list...
Glenn and Dee sold the track to Mike Wear(Cold Fusion Nitrous)the first of May, 2005. They
must have owner-financed it because I have seen posts that the track is going back to them.
But, Glenn says he is not going to run it again so hopefully someone else buys it...before they
convert it into a trailer park.

From the lonestar web site that refers U to SA raceway.
"With Lonestar Raceway Park closed until further notice, the final I-10 Series Race at San Antonio Raceway on October 1, 2005, will be the only race left in the Series. Gates will open at 11 A.M. with two time trials for each class starting at 12:30 P.M. In order to be fair to all the racers competing in this points series, points will be contested in BOTH colors of Electronics and No-E. We will also be running two colors in the Junior class so two sets of points can be earned. San Antonio Raceway track points will be awarded in the first color only. If anything new comes up, we will post as soon as it develops."

I guess maybe it's the fact that I disagree with U about HMP. I never really liked Sealy because:
1. it was 1 1/2 drive for me.
2. The track was never prepped good as far as bite--EVERY time I went there, my car just went up in smoke on the line, where it does not at HMP or HRP
3. Every time I went I was only able to get in a couple test-n tune runs after waiting a couple hours. And when I did U were only allowed to make one pass per session--where HMP unless there was a big show, u could make as many passes as U could stomach.
but I did not go around slamming Sealy because of that. I did appreciate the fact, and was thankful, that we had 3 different tracks to choose from in our area to choose from. I also remember the time period when there were NO DRAG STRIPS IN THE HOUSTON AREA.

After the track on I-45 S ( Dickinson) closed, that left Porter --the 1/4 track up north in Porter Tx, when they closed, before Baytown was built, there was a period with no track in the immediate Hou area. I wasn't drag racing then, ( I was into roundy round racing from 79/80 to late 80's,) so I'm not 100% sure of the dates, but it was around late 70's early 80's. From what I understand this is what prompted the Gay family(no comments!
---that used to own the Dickinson drag strip and Gay Pontiac in Dickinson) to team up with the current co-owners amd build the current Baytown strip, we know as HRP.

SEaly did have problems with traction, especially that last time there when the track was rented by a private group and they didn't have their regular people there. Im not arguing or anything, Im just expressing my opinion, but I liked it because it was very convenient for me 30 min on 110 with no traffic out west, and they had the big area with grass. Hell, you could have held a rock festival out there there was so much space. Now HRP is supposedly one of the best tracks int he country and I believe it. They are way orgainized, and always have the launching area in good shape. But its far for me. I was thinking, If I was to have something as simple as a flat tire on the back of my car, I would have to have the car towed home!. Can you see me putting the teeny tiny inflatable spare on one side in the back and that big monster drag radial on the other. one of the tires would be freaking of the ground. So distance is something I have to consider.
Anyway HMP is ok, but I feel they are disorganized there. Several times I went to the staging lanes, had no idea what class, or what was being run, and had to back out after waiting there for awhile. Also, there were people walking in front of the cars as you exit the staging lane area into the launch area. I almos hit someone there.

I would kind of have to agree with you there. The one time my brother and I went was on a T&T night and I was very surprised about how relaxed they were about people around the burnout boxes. I would hope on an actual race night they were more strict about where people could walk. However, I was impressed by the facilities in general there, it was a nice place.

I sent an email to HRP and asked when HRP opened.
When Dickinson closed.
When Porter closed.
We'll see if they answer.

That's too bad, I like Sealy alot better than HMP.
HMP has a VERY short end of track (finish line to sand box). I've seen alot of people in the sand box at HMP.
HMP has a nice surface because it's newer, but Sealy was laid out better in my opinion.
Just the 2 cents........

There about to open again!
Just got this e-mail...
Dear Friend of LONESTAR,
We regret to tell you that we are not ready to re-open on this Friday,
January 27, 2006. Here's why:
We've been very busy preparing the track since the beginning of January.
Given that the facility has not been in operation since August, 2005 -
this was a lot of work. Now its completed. The track has been cleaned
and prepped for racing. The timing system has been updated and tested.
All the lights have been tested. The grass is cut and we are just about
ready to race. So the facility is good to go. Also, most of the staff
who previously worked at Lonestar are coming back. Dee and Glen have also
been a huge help to get re-opened and we would not be anywhere without
them.
So the reason we are not ready to re-open yet is simply the fact that I
wanted another week to make sure there we are doing everything possible to
make the track as safe as possible. After the very unfortunate accident
at Houston Motorsports Park last week, I really realized that while all
the operation aspects of the track were under way and being handled, that
I had not taken a good look at all issues and aspects related to safety at
Lonestar.
We are now good to go with having the Austin county emergency services on
board with us. We will be meeting with track employees this weekend to go
over track operations including safety.
So thanks very much for your patience. We will be open on Friday,
February 3, 2006 and we hope to see you then.
Thanks and see you at the track soon!

i think we have had a track pretty much non-stop sense the early 60s. i don't know which one opened first, Porter or Houston International. if i remember right, Houston International closed the year before HRP opened which left Porter the only track we had, i believe Porter went to 1/8 mile about 2 years after HRP opened, i could easily be wrong though. seems like i remember
hearing the old timers (guys who were in their 40s & 50s back in the early 70s) talk about some other track before HI & Porter.
i miss Porter, it was the first track i ever went to, i remember watching the muscle cars run there, big mopars & big chevys,.. & even some fords smoking the factory skinnys pretty much all the
way down the track. it was also the place where i saw a 9 second VW bug back around 72 or 73.

Hmmm......about when tracks opened and closed......I talked to Gerald at HRP about this because of the discussion ESC and I were having about that subject..........guess I forgot to post it.
According to Gerald.........Dickinson DID close way before HRO was opened, about a year and a half, If I remember right, what Gerald said. Porter was about to close and the partners at HRP, (who were in negotiations about opening HRP, strongly urged Porter to stay open to keep the interest alive and going, so when HRP was opened they would not have lost all the racers. Supposedly, Porter actually closed and reopened a couple times for a week or two. It is rumored (unconfirmed ) that they even threw some money towrds Porter to make sure they stayed open until HRP opened. HRP opened and Porter closed for good very shortly afterwards.
I have no idea when Sealy originally opened.
