I timed the car, replaced the MAP and I was able to get it to idle on it's own.
It just needs a few tweaks and it will be running. I've told him what he needs to do to wrap it up.
Tim - have you reset the valves, adjusted idle screw, fixed the exhaust knocking up against the frame rail, wired in the fans, etc... yet?
Once you get that done, we'll tune it.

replaced MAP, fixed exhaust rattle/knock, adjusted valves as per book says with engine off, couldnt hear the valves with the engine on, then after that it seemed to run worse, recharged battery, didnt wire in the fans yet, went to retime it and couldnt get it to work out...... ran out of time on sat., right before i left i found that a fuel inj fuse was blown!
replaced it and it ran a little better but now timing is off so i need to redo that, have very little vacuum below 3000 still died out at idle, just ran out of time.... now i need to retime it and check it out
does everyone adjust the valves like the book says going to where theres no play in the pushrod then tighten it 1 1/2 turns more? seemed real tight like it was when i did it the first time?

It's running worse because you set the valves WAY too tight. (You don't want to choke that size of a cam that you have in there). You need to get the car to idle first by turning the screw out some.
Before you crank the car up, loosen all rockers 1/2 turn each and reset the valves like I told you with the car running then go zero lash (just barely stop tapping, then go 1/2 turn).
Why do you need to reset the timing? Did you mess with the distrib after I timed it?
Also, how did you fix the exhaust, did your welder come by?

no welding i just turned the header-to-y pipe bracket, i could see where it was rubbing.... also with the it running like crap due to the blown fuse so we couldnt hear the valves tapping or anything, give me a call tommorow or something and well see whats up

Yeah. I'm in. Definitely both days. Got the weekend off from work. And thanks for putting me in the 13.00 - 13.99 category. I'm flattered you even put me up that high.
So what happens if it's the first time you're running your car and you have no idea what you may run, and you run faster than a 11.99 and you don't have what the NHRA rulebook requires you to have? Do you get disqualified or what?
That would suck.
Well anyway, this will be a first for me in the 1/4. I'm definitely looking forward to it.
Any word on the shirts?

U will have a chance to make a couple of practice runs efore we do the elimination ladder. Based on what other cars run that I am familar with what they have for HP, I'm just guessing, but I think u will be in there somewhere.

Yeah, I guess I should read the other threads instead of being lazy and waiting for the answers to come to me, huh? Haha.

The time/attendance chart (second post of this thread--page 1) has been updated.
Also, Sue (Mrs. Zap) says that if nobody else is going to run the 16.00 + up class, she will get out there and make one pass just so she can win the award.

Yeah guys--don't scare her off--U don't know how hard I have worked to convince her to make one pass. If she has to race somebody she probably won't do it. If there IS another car in that class, I will probably end up driving her car. That little 2.8L V-6 will have it's tongue hanging out by the time i finish the run. I don't think the accelerator has ever been all the way to the floor
(except maybe once or twice when I drove it to test it after fixing something)

I am planning on making the trip for Friday and Saturday. I ran a 14.92 at Evadale in February, have made some mods since then, but should still be in that bracket. Whats the best place to stay around there ?? Is furthest travel award figured to HRP or Bear Creek Park ??

Do U want a motel close to the Friday night drag strip--which is the extreme East side of Hou? Or do U want one that is close to the Sat Bear Creek Park stuff--which is the extreme west side of town?
Both web sites listed in the first post of the Fall Brawl thread have addresses, list motels, and maybe even a mapblast deal, but if U let me know, I can probably help further.
The long distance award will be to Bear Creek Park.

Since Fatal88's car is more than half, fourth gen, I wonder if that counts as a thirdgen?

Man.....I had forgotten how nice that car is!!!
The rest of us don't stand a chance at any of the appearance awards!
Maybe we should start a professional class, so the rest of us have a shot?
