I just moved to Houston from Florida where we had no inspection for cars. I have an 88 that had a 305 TBI 5speed. Now it has a 350 TBI. It has all emissions stuff except for AIR pump. I have just joined TGO and have looked at a lot of posts about emission problems in Houston, but many were a few years old. Any of you guys with this set-up have any luck at the sniffer? thanks

 

Most inspection places (not all) can and will for a small fee run a test sniffer for U, by putting their machine in the trainng mode and doing the sniffer test, and it does not go into the Tx state data base. (I have had it done).

A smaller independent place, rather than a big chain, is a more likely canadate to work with U.


Based on the results of the sniffer, U can figure out if a little tuning will clear the problem or if more drastic measures are needed.The best thing I could recommend is after the test, post the info on the TBI board and see if some of the more experianced guys in that area can help tune it to pass.

I know of a couple guys here in the Hou area that have TBI cars, but I don't know a thing about them or how to tune them, and don't know anybody that can burn chips for them. Now TPI cars is another story--one of the best around is here in Tomball area (Mike --1bad91Z)
