OK--here's the deal. When I first put this thread at the top of the page, I made some stipulations about it's use.

Since the majority of people that have been posting something they have to get rid of, have NOT been using the "Swap Meet" thread and continue to make seperate posts/threads, (which would be cool if U listed your posts in both places), the thread will be deleted if nobody cares to use it!

I still think the concept is good, and considering the the upper level mgmt, is wanting the moderators to clean up the boards, and require all posts of that nature to go on the "classified" board, if U guys do not use it, U may not have ANYWHERE to list stuff locally,U have to get rid of.

Even though the senior mods have said that it is somewhat up to that particular board's moderator, as to whether to allow this type of post on the local board, they have also in no uncertain terms, laid it out that the classified board is the place for that type of ad--NOT on the local boards!

So, the bottom line is, if the senior mods continue to see all these individual posts/threads about stuff to get rid, like we have a lot of here on the South Central board, regardless of whether it's "for sale" or it's "free", they may not allow them at all, INCLUDING THE ONE STICKIED "SWAP MEET" THREAD!

So, use it or lose it! In this case that means the stickied thread as well as the privalige of being able to list "parts for sale" AT ALL!!!

DON'T SAY U HAVE NOT BEEN WARNED!!!

GOOD IDEA
i think the swap meet thread is a good ideal, however, it would probably be better if it were a weekly updated thread. That's my opinion

I like the dedicated thread and here is why. I move from project to project on my car. One week I may not be interested in a particular item that someone has for sale because I don't need it for my current project. But the next project I'm working on and researching, I may be interested. I can then scan the list and see if I can locate it and see if it is for sale.

I think the list will help us get rid of the obscure parts we can't use anymore and maybe put some (out of the family budget) money in out pockets.

Zap, if the poll says to keep the thread, do you want to consider deleting 'for sale' threads.

The thread should be updated by the people that have items listed that they want to get rid of. When something is sold, the original poster should go back and mark it sold or delete it from their post.

I go through about once a week and delete any posts that are questions about something --if it is still available, or how much is it--or similar questions.

If people would list what they have to get rid of in this thread instead of making a new seperate post/thread, everybody else would be used to looking at the thread, instead of the seperate threads/posts, when something is neded or whan something new is listed!

It is not my place to delete or censor "parts for sale" threads--that is overstepping my authority. Not until the higher-ups tell me "no more for sale threads"! Until that time, things will continue as they are.

For the swap meet thread to be sucessful, everybody has to work together, not just a few of us and the rest do what they want.

What would be the best scenario, would be for items to be listed in the stickied "swap meet" thread. If U want to call attnention to your new items listed, a seperate post/thread that says something to the effect "See my newly listed items in the swap meet thread" would be the best way!

Here's something to think about also--when I am gone on vacation the first 2 weeks in Aug--a senior mod will be filling in for me while I am away. If they see tons of for sale threads, there is a good chance the "for sale" and "anybody got this or that" threads, those threads will no longer be allowed on this board.

So, like I said use or lose it-- Abuse it and U will lose it!

And before I get down off the soapbox, there's another thing. It's quite obvious that some people that post a thread that "I am looking for this or that", do NOT look at what is listed in the swap meet, cause numerous thime somebody posts somethng like that and as I look thru the swap meet, I see a couple different that have listed they have one of those items for sale, but the person that is looking for something never contacts that person that has what they are looking for! I guess people are too lazy, or something--guess it's just eaier to throw out a post instead of spending a couple minutes looking thru the swap meet thread!!!

yeah, well, if people would actually use it, i'd be all for keeping it. i've got a ton of stuff to get rid of and only one person has taken advantage of it and i've only sold one thing. i understand im not the most "available" person when it comes down to it, but you'd figure with all the parts i have to get rid of, i'd be selling out pretty quick. especially with almost all the stuff being in good condition.

maybe it's just because im a chick? *shrugs*

do i need to start giving out free hand jobs to get you guys to come out here? come on.

I don't think that's it at all--I really don't think anybody cares about who owns a car that is being parted out.

Think the circumstances where U gave first short notice and then when it was going to be a Sat open house, U had to cancel, and no word about it since, is probably the biggest reason.

maybe try scheduling another open house (for the weekend if possible) or give plenty of notice for people to arrange their schedule.

I was going to come over that Sat U got called into work and get a couple things, but it got cancelled.

I think you'll probably get more attention because you are a 'chick'. Southern guys will do about anything to help out a lady.

Face it, you've got to have just the right part when someone needs it. And, the person that needs it might be strapped for cash just like you!

why don't we plan on having a south central swap meet? that way any1 who has tried to post stuff they need to sale can display it, sale it , or trade for it, and everyone can get together. That might be something to think about

SHILO420 if you are interested in an item, why not ask the seller to bring it to the monthly GTG.

Its hard enough getting folks to show up at the monthlys much less haul all of their stuff to a swap meet.

Just a suggestion.

i think the swap meet post is a good idea, and ive had pretty good response from it . if the mods still have a problem with it, maybe they should set up a local only selling board. back to the thread, maybe we should just list items you wanna get rid of, not i want this, i want that..
