Other than the concept, that the gas tank must be a closed loop capable of handling "x" pressure so that fumes are not escaping into the atmosphere. I have a vacuum system here that I used to troubleshoot mine 2 years ago when it failed. Are you having trouble or did you want specific answers?

well i failed the pressure test part, so i replaced a buncha lines under the tank and to the charcoal canister last night,so the only other thing i need to check is the filler neck i think. i dont wanna run through emissions again and fail then have to pay to try next time.

If you can, go to Autozone and buy their vacuum tester/brake bleeder kit. It's a plastic handle mounted on a plastic bottle looking thing with a gauge on it . Disconnect one of your fuel lines near the fuel pump and plug it with a large bolt or philips screwdriver. Mount the vacuum tester on the metal line you exposed by removing a fuel line, and secure it. Start squeezing, your going to be squeezing until the gauge registers. Then walk away nursing your sore hand for a couple minutes. If the vacuum stays your good.
For what it's worth, if it even registers your good, but it should hold it. It usually works better if there is more gas than empty space in the tank, but it is possible when it's near empty like mine was. Also, check to make sure your pressure relief valve is in good working order. Mine wasn't and thats why it failed.

That's the peice. It's like 6$ at the dealership. I cot mine from Bell Chevrolet. They had it in stock. Typically it goes bad before your lose anything else. If you test it you should have to blow REALLY hard through it to get it to release. If it's easy tp blow through it's probably bad. Take the old one with you when you go so they can get the part number off it.

Yes you are. Without it you are venting fumes.

gasoline is a very very non-viscous fluid if there was even a slightest pinhole or anywhere air would escape it would leak i would guess that if you had that contraption that Chris was talking about you could pull a vacuum on the gastank and see if there was a loss of vacuum

What year Camaro do you have. I read somewhere ther was a recall on the later (late 80's early 90's) because they can develop a tiny hole in the filler neck. Would be nice to get it fixed for free.

Chevrolet replaced the tank in my 1991 camaro due to pinholes in the filler neck. I had bought the car 2nd hand and they still did it for me.
They did this a while ago, I'm thinking it was in 1995, and I can;t recall what model years it covered-
Hope the repair works out for you-
