On the road again
Well I finally helicoiled my head this week, put on my intake manifold and it appears that it isn't leaking. With a ZZ4 intake and a 1" carb spacer, I have a whole new set of probs. Using the stock bracket, the throttle cable is held back too far by a fraction of an inch making it idle high and diesel when hot, the TV cable wont adjust properly and the drop base airclear rubs the hood. Got a L88 drop base coming so I hope that'll help. My summit parts arrived today so I'll be puting on a new bracket.
With the helicoil kit I bought and another new set of gaskets, I paid $50 to fix my mistake. Always check your bolts! My ARPs were for a SBC intake, but they were 5/16" shorter compared to stock, and when I torqued them down, there weren't threaded in far enough and stripped the threads in the head. I just assumed that $14 bolts for a SBC would fit a SBC and didn't compare them to stock.
But I was plesantly surprised the first time I drove it. It's louder then before and has noticably more power throughout the rpm range. This was a better mod then my headers (which were equally frustrating to install)! At least now I'm not as discouraged as I was before.
BTW, anyone have a cc q-jet they dont want anymore? I need a spare to tinker with.
