YARRR!!
Got the headers on, finally. We just kept running into snags, but thanks to veteran's day, I finally got it done. Quite the bitch, I must say! But anyways, I drove it around with just the y-pipe on and it sounds like a freakin funny car!! So awesome, but anyways, the thing needs some massive tuning, so hopefully the Prominator stuff I ordered should come through quick here. I'm pumped!

What is the big deal with you guys and header installs??? I can't even count how many I've done it, and none of the ones I did took longer than a few hours except for my firebird, and that was full length 1 3/4inch hooker super comps that required clearancing and jacking the car up like 5 feet in the air.

No kidding....Ive done 2 sets of headers on thirdgens. One was a TES Edelbrock set on my 83, and the other was a cheapie set of Hedmans and y-pipe on my 88 that I had to lift the motor up because of the raised valve cover rail on the aluminum L98 heads. Neither one took more than 2-3 hours. Thats pulling the car in with manifolds, and pulling it out with headers...all done.

they sound gr8 with just y-pipe. if yall plan it on a weekend i'll be more then glad to come over-tools in hand.
removing the manifolds, old exhaust system and installing the new headers, took me about 3 hours and that included bending braces for accessories. my y-pipe was an ordeal in itself-as was the o2 sensor, and the cat-back.

Everyone's been giving me **** about it, but I'd say total, I put in about a day's work to it. The biggest pain in the *** was getting the back two bolts off of the passenger side. Those stupid *** bolt protector tabs rusted to the back bolt, so it was a big pain getting that off. In addition to that, on the second to last one, the corners of the nut got a little stripped. The 12 point wrench wasn't doing the job so I had to take the blade (just the blade, the whole saw wouldn't fit) of the hacksaw and hack off the majority of the stud then get a six pointer on it. Other than that, it was a lot of "well crap, this doesn't fit" and then f-ing around with that stupid problem for a while. I really had no idea what to expect, so everything was kinda a suprise, but got er' done and I'm happy, hell I've had the things for a year

Don't feel so bad. Mine took forever to do. Takes hours just to move all the wires and smog crap out of the way just to see the engine.
Then found out the metal air pipe to the cat was rusted out so had to order another from GM. Then the SLP y-pipe dint fit.

Bruce man, I feel bad because I always say I'm gonna call you, but I never do. Iduno, whenever I work on the car it's always I wake up, just kinda decide to do it and go at it, I never really plan to do it because I'm usually busy with other stuff. I'm pretty much done messing with any major things (for now) unless the tranny gives. But if you're not busy some night this week I'll swing over and give ya a ride!
