New stereo setup
Well, since I finally finished my EFI to Carb swap I decided to upgrade the stereo. I had a Checker Auto MP3 CD player and it would skip alot because of bumps and vibration from the motor. I went to Smith Audio Video to see if they could maybe pack it in with something to stop it from vibrating and they said no. Their decks are all guaranteed not to skip. I also wanted to change the dash speakers to sooo.... I bought a 199 dollar "Dual" unit with mp3 and it started skipping as well.
Brought it back and they installed another one and same thing. Long story short I now have a 278 dollar eclipse model CD5425 unit with mp3 and sirius capabiltiy. The only drawback is that you cannot remove the faceplate. However, it becomes disabled and unusable if stolen.
It has more power than the Dual 199 dollar unit and so far I like it alot. I replaced the dash and side speakers with SPL's and the system sounds great. Quite an improvement over what I had. I will be putting in a 4 or 5 channel amp with one 10" sub as well. That's what they recommended to me. I will try to post a pic later of the player itself if you want.

There are some things I dont like about this player. Like the fact that it doesnt tell you what number track you are playing on an mp3 disc which I'm assuming its because its reading files and not tracks?
The buttons for volume and changing tracks are too close to the player and when I try to turn up the volume etc I sometimes will bump the **** which switches it to other modes like BAL, FAD....oh well. I was told I would only need a 4 or 5 channel amp and only one 10" sub. They said I wouldnt need 2 and that alot of people think they do. The audio place said my setup would be real nice for what I want.

The audio place said my setup would be real nice for what I want. it will be, but there are also other ways of doing it.. most the time one 4 channel amp will power your fronts/rears and you get a seperate low freq. amp for the 10". My head unit has an amp in it already, so i didnt need the 4 channel, and i use a 150W amp to power BOTH 10"s and it can get a lil loud sometimes... i like my pioneer cuz its got all the cool bells and whistles that are fun to mess with, but its also got a huge EQ range, seperate subwoofer pre-amps, very clear and easy display and i NEVER bump the other buttons.. haha http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIODEHP6700MP this one is the closest one to the one i have, ive had it in 3 vehicles... i love it to death... not only does mine tell you what folder/track MP3 its playing, it will display the track title, artist, bit-rate, filename or album title... its pretty darn sweet
