Legit or not?

Well actually this is gonna be a few questions.

First off, my car is in need of a paint job..when I went to get a car wash a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to get the wax but the guy was like "No I am not gonna sell you wax, the paint on your car is GONE!" he then gave me his card and told me that if I wanted a decent paint job there's a shop called One Day Paintjob.

he said for 300 dollars I can get a paint job and he assures me its a good place to get a paint. Now, I am not a fool or anything but 300 dollars is just screaming half assed paint job. I was looking to spend about 800-1000 dollars on a paint job.

I don't think its legit...I could be wrong but a decent paint job is not cheap and I have heard this countless times from many many other resourceful people.

Also, A/C....I recently got my a/c recharged at Goodyear for about 250 bucks (those guys are excellent, very mellow and informative) anyway, they said that my compressor was leaking. The a/c has been cold but I think now I am starting to feel that it is getting warmer again because of that leak. It's still cold (alot better than that 75 degree hell I had previously) but I think the temperature is starting to raise back up again.

Anyway Goodyear said they can get me a compressor installed for about 690 plus tax...warranty included and everything.

Are there any good A/C shops anyone would recommend around town. I am in Tucson.

I would avoid the One-Day paint job...if you need something economical, get Maaco's best...obviously going to
cost more, but worth it.

As for the a/c....it's kind of a wash deal....I sell an a/c kit (new Delphi compressor, accumulator and orofice tube)
for $287 with tax. Our deal has a 2 year warranty if you show proof of flush and oil....I sell to Goodyear, so it
would be a conflict of interest for me to dis them, but if you figure it's a few hours labor, plus freon, it's a fair
deal.

Do you happen to sell the seals that go on the compressor that are 134-a compatible?

In regards to the paint, $300 is way too cheap, and you get what you pay for. When I had areas of my T/A redone it cost me almost a $1000, just for the hood and nose. The body shop was just going to blend it in and I had them do the whole thing.

In regards to the A/C, if you are having an issue this quickly after getting the A/C repaired, take it back and have them fix it right.

If your compressor is bad, do not replace it and then re-fill with R-12, the r-134 conversion is easy to do, all you need is someone to evacuate the system twice, once before you start and then again after you get everything put back together. The rest of the work can be done in about 2-3 hours and all you'll need is the acumulator (sp?), orifice tube and the various o-rings for the connections.

Third, all compressors should be 134 compatible, it's just that you have to put the right oil and o-rings on them. Black ones are R-12, Green are R-134.

Checker sells an O-ring assortment that's 134a compatible, but it doesn't include O-rings for the main compressor lines. I'm doing the 134a conversion right now, but I'm going to evacuate and fill it myself. I can buy a gauge set and a vac pump for the price people charge around here. (But of course I don't have the cash for either.) According to CraZ28 I'll have it done by 2007. :P

You talkin' to me?

Yeah, as long as they are green or blue they are 134 seals....and that's
about all you can find anymore...

Make sure you buy/rent/steal a flush gun and blow out everything with
a good flush like Dura 141.

In 91RS's position, I'd take the car back to Goodyear and have them put
dye in it to see where it's leaking....they can do it, I sell them dye almost
every day....

I was tempted to roll up the windows when I saw you yesterday on 22nd, CraZ28, just to make you think I finished.... but it was 100 degrees outside and my car is black. =/

Unfortunately, I hurt my back (again) and I won't be able to work on the car anytime soon. I was only 2 seals and some rewiring away. *sigh*
