It's an awesome 1991 IROC-Z with a 305 TBI!!!! It's an RS clone my friends. Anyone care to see this car and set this guy straight?

 

well the engine pics sure looks like a tpi..

but sure enough when i ran the vin its not a tpi car, and it was purchased at a auction not too long ago

 

Yeah, it's fake but someone sure did put a lot of wrench time into it. I feel bad for the sorry person that buys it thinking they have an Iroc and actually has an RS.

 

I could be mistaken but.....they didnt make iroc's in 91 or 92?????? so that tells u right away the hood and symbols are replica's for a real iroc

 

IROCs were produced from 85-90. That car is a junk. Very shady

My theory: This car is actually a 1990 w/ a different VIN on it. It HAS to be at least a 1990 to have the airbag and the diff. guages. One of the easiest ways to pick out a 1990 is look for and airbag, and NO GFX SCOOPS. The car may have been in an accident and a diff. vin was pulled to keep a clean title. If that is what I think it is though, a 1990 IROC-Z Convertable is a VERY rare car! I'd almost like to see this thing myself...

 

Just sent the guy an e-mail. If he still has the car, I'm gonna go take a look at it. See if I can snap a pic of the vin from a diff. part of the car...

 

i messaged the guy on ebay when it was up for sale and he gave me some long dumb story about it but basically said he didnt do it and it was manufactured like that

 

In April of 1990 GM announced plans to discontinue the Camaro after the 1992 model year. The high performance versions (IROC and Z-28) would end with the 1990 model year. After much public outcry, GM decides to re-tool for Z-28's after January 1, 1991. However, the decree to stop making the cars sent many running to the dealers and putting deposits on cars in hopes of getting one of the last ones. In planning, GM allowed the IROC franchise to be sold off to Chrysler beginning January 1, 1991. When GM saw how many deposits were placed, they decided to 'convert' cars coming off their current production line to IROC's, but only cars that were already sold and could be delivered before December 31, 1990. The conversions were done at American Coachworks, the same company that did the McClaren conversions for the Ford Mustangs. There were approximately 900 cars converted by AC, which created IROC's and IROC convertibles which met or exceeded the production standards of the factory-built cars. This is one of those cars...if you call AC and run the VIN past them, it comes up in their records. The car was built and delivered in October of 1990.

GM got back to speed in March of 1991 and began producing their own Z-28's (IROC was gone, remember). But there are those 900 or so true IROC's for the 1991 model year, making them the rarest of the 3rd-gen Camaro's. The suspension, engine, and frame ties of the 1991 IROC's are parts directly from the 1LE program provided to AC. The undercarriage is perfectly rigid (as only a hand0built car can be) and to this day is 100% squeek and rattle free. The car rides like a brand new car.

 

I wonder why NO ONE has ever heard of this before and NO ONE can produce any documentation, and NO publication has ever mentioned this, much less publicized production numbers..... So until official documentation surfaces.... (which it never will because it doesn't exist)....
