In less than 9 hours a tow truck will take my Trans Am to a shop in Mesa so the motor can be rebuilt. I am a salmon and will swim upsteam, what that means is I will have the 305 rebuilt. But it will come back as a 307. I always felt my 5.0 was a freaky little bastard and performed very well. So I decided to return the favor and keep the block. The cam and heads will be put reused, much to the surprise of the shop owner. He wanted to put in a brand new GM spec cam, but I didn't want him throwing in a peanut 5.0 cam, and besides the roller cam will hardly have any wear anyway.

So within 1 week I will be rocking in my beloved Fbody once again. But this time it will be with headers and 2 extra cubic inches.

Holy crap, someone replied. The car won't be streetable for a bit. There are a few things that need my attention. 1st is it needs an alignment, but before that it needs new sway bar end links in the front, strut mount, the rear needs to be fixxed still, and then I need a new cat as the one stock one was thrown out with the stock manifolds.

Around $2300. There is stuff that I can't do like piston rings and hauling a bare block to and from a machine shop with a motorcycle, piston ring install, using micrometers, etc... And then there is stuff I refuse to do, like reassembling the whole mess in the nasty summer heat by myself.

Also, I couldn't find a decently low mileage Lb9 or L98 for less than $1000. Most were in the low 100k's to 120's. Why spend the money on a block that might crap out in a year. This way, I have no aggrivation, don't get dirty, and I have a warrantied motor for 3 years and I can still say it's the original motor.

Btw, why do you ask? Is your engine on it's way out?

too bad you dont live out here, i know a guy who has about 2-3 L98's with trannies. He rebuilds most the 3rdgens around here. You need anything thirdgen related he can find it, get it or fabricate it... for 3-3.5k he could have built you an L98 w/ 300whp capability...
