My 1989 IROC is now exempt from emissions. There was a new law passed recently, effective this March. You must have your car on collector car insurance for the waiver. Finally!

I just got to Tucson last May for the AF. I just recently picked up a 87 Firebird Formula for a great price I think. Anyway, I was wanting to know about emissions. Is it really true if you have collector car insurance that you don't have to worry about emissions? I am pretty sure this car won't pass since I have very little experience in tuning a carb, and it's all aftermarket, so all the shop manuals are pretty useless. How much more expensive is the collector car insurance versus regular insurance? Thanks for the info. MAC

Yes, with my Collector Car Insurance, I pay about $170.00 a year for my 89 IROC, zero deductable, with a value of $9,500. and a maximum of 3,000 miles a year. For each 1,000 miles over the limit of 3,000, add $10.00 to the premium. I am also 51 y.o. with no citations or accidents in the last 3 years.
