Need Help with AZ emissions
Need Help with AZ emissions
How do I pass the Hydrocarbons portion of the emmissions sniffer test?
I scored a 1.04 the first time
I scored a 1.06 the second time running 100 octane fuel.
I need a 1.00 to pass the test.
Do I need a new cat? Should I run alcohol?

run some alcohol in with ur gas... or if u wanna spend the $$$ go to an autoparts store and buy that emissions reducer stuff thing in a bottle that goes in ur gas tank.... basically just alcohol, but they sell if for $10 a bottle.. haha
Or run a bottle of engine cleaner through it. Depending on how much you drive it the rest of the year, it may just need some deposits removed to make it run a little better. That's what I have to do to my 79 Trans AM every year to get it through, but it only sees 2 or 300 miles a year of driving.

There's a bunch of stuff you can do, some people look for gas stations where you can pay to do an emissions test. The more you pay.... the more they ignore. Not the legalest method, but neither is tricking the DMV guys.

I used to be an inspector - don't worry, nobody's busted!!!!
Change your oil, even if you just did it recently, and advance your timing about 4 degrees.....
If the stuff in the bottle doesn't work- that will.

LoL, some inspectors are cool sometimes, when my buddy and I ran a 72 suburban with a 550hp 383, the inspector didn't even check under the hood, just kinda grinned at us and let us through

Re: Need Help with AZ emissions
how warm is the car when you brought it in. I found on my formula that i had to have the thing damn hot to get it to pass. I basically drove it for 30 mins or so mostly highway then took it in.
Check your timing
O2 sensor could help if its old
Oil change
Plugs if they are bad
How old is your Cat? This would be the most expensive thing to replace, and your soo close to passing.
But a bottle of alchy might be the easiest way to get through like they said above

I ran my car for thirty minutes on the highway before I brought it to the emissions station. So I know it was warmed up. Where do I get the alcohol to pass the test? What kind of alcohol are you guys talking about?
How should I mix the alcohol? How much gas should I mix with the alcohol?
