Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

robertfrank,

I like your styling on your car. Once you have a repaint done and a nicer hood it should look really hot. I like the low rise spoiler, GTA rims and SS emblems, gray/silver combo, and the black quarter stripe copied from a Dodge Hemi. For being on a budget you did a good job with creating a clean unique look. I would just say it's time to stop on the performance mods and start savings for paint. Again good job with a unique look.

Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

Paint for me is going to be the last thing I do for the car. I don't see the point of doing a repaint at this moment when I'm still digging in the engine bay, lol. I'd be pissed if I scratched it. I'm torn about what color scheme I want to go with. My hood and decklid/spoiler will always be Satin/Hotrod Black. That's what color they are now.I was thinking either the new Cyber Gray metallic from GM or going to almost a "satin gray". Give it kind of a stealth bomber look. I want something differant from all the blacks, reds and blues I see on these cars. As for the hood, I'm going SS all the way come tax time. Yeah it's been done before but I don't feel like spending 1500 on the inverted cowl for Japan. If I could get my hands on one of those it's on for sure. I'm all about the "go" before the "show",lol

I'm calling BS on this comment. You've spent far too much time around my wife to think that either are optional at any point during the car's build. It must always be both fast and pretty.

At least until you make it really fast, then it just has to get even faster.

I agree that it should be pretty.....but it must go fast first....then it can be made pretty.

I am the other way around. Pretty first, then fast. Otherwise it's like trying to polish a turd.

Once you get it looking hot, you will always be willing to dump money in it. If looks like garbage then its to easy to give up on it and move on to something better.

To each their own man.

It may be a polished turd, but it's a fast turd! I can appreciate a fast beat up looking car, alot of people can't.

Before I painted my 84, it never got any attention. The only place I ever got asked about my car was at the track, because it ran 12.0s mainly. RARELY at pavillions would anyone inquire about my car. It wasn't until I painted it that it got the attention I felt it deserved.

I guess it's easy for me to be attached to a car that isn't a looker persay, since I do all the mechanical work. I feel my time invested is worth alot, so I wouldn't just dump the car. I would venture to guess it would make selling the car alot harder though, not being a head turner. Alot of people judge a book by its cover, a car by its paint.

Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

i personally like my cars to look and be fast. probally the reason it takes 4 years to get one on the road!

but! here is the car i just did for a buddy, and he has yet to bring it back to let me finish the outside! (inside if beautiful!!) but when it's this fast, it dosen't have to look good!

and we give him crap about the doors every time we go out!!

If there's one good thing that my father taught me, it was to get the car running well before I made it look good. I used to think that it had to be sexy before it was running the way I wanted it till he said something that made total sense to me. "I'd rather have a car that looked like hell that runs than a car that looks good on the side of the road." I've held true to that statement ever since.

On a side note I knew a guy in NC that had a '68 Camaro that looked like it was ran through a blender. Barely any of the body panels matched in color but it was pretty straight. It had butt ugly wheels and the interior was in tatters. But....when you popped open that hood it was the most immaculate 502 swap I had ever seen. That car was a beast. He used to tell me the same thing....it's all about the go before the show.

Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

Here is my 1991 Firebird 3.1L V6. I purchased it today. Well, since it's past 12, it'd be yesterday techincally. Anyway, it was an older lady who bought it new off the lot of Sun Pontiac on E Main St. in Mesa, AZ(bought by Henry Brown I think she explained?). She had a huge folder of service records since 1991. It was maintained very well. Car only has 57k on it. It's in great condition. Only a crack in the bottom right of the nose, and minor paint chips. The curb was a very steep short drop from her driveway and it shows in the nose I think. I haven't noticed any mechanical problems right off. That's pretty much the story of this bird.

I'm also new to the forums.
Glad to be here!
Sorry for the crappy pics. I got her back home after dark, and the camera was dead, so this is the best my cell can do atm. Better pics coming soon.
Here she is:

Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

Well the good thing about v6's is sometimes they dont get the crap kicked out of them like v8's do lol When i boughts mine it was in an alright condition, mechanicaly sound but the body was a bit screwed up, the guy bought it off got it from his daughters boyfriend who thought it would be funny to break it loose on a dirt road, smack a mailbox with the rear and then spin it out and smack the front right on a fence... he repaird it all but ive got 2 big primer spots as a reminder, swapping a V8 into it would be pricey but you look like you have a good base to start with.

As far as gas goes it depends on what you have and how you use it, ive got a 5 speed and if i beat the **** out of it ive gotta fill up every 3 days or so, if im nice to it i can go about a week without having to fill up and thats driving from QC to mesa where i work every day

Where exactly are you located? id like to be able to see this thing in person

youd be suprised, i drove from mesa and made it 40 miles into new mexico averaging around 85-100 mph and only used 19$ in gas its stop and go that kills mileage, when i drove to NM i wanted to get there, pik up my parts and get home and i wasnt being nice to the gas at all i figured id be spending alot anyway so i might as well have fun with it, so i managed to go 271 miles on a little under half a tank while beating the **** out of it....not bad at alll lol

How do you drive or how far do you drive in 3 days?? Either way your wasting money. Mine gets 17 city and that's just cruising. My parents both drive hybrids, I love my GTA, but I'd daily drive one of their cars over mine any day of the week.

Werd, that is why I ride my motorcycle for my daily commute most of the time. 45mpg sure beats the **** out of the 15 my trans am gets.

Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

I know I don't step in and harp anywhere NEAR as much as I used to, but every now-and-then I do have to do my job. Do me a favor guys and try to steer this back on topic. Slowly approaching more secondary conversation then we are thirdgen pictures

On that note though, HOLY CRAP you guys have some BEAUTIFUL cars!! Makes me miss mine more and more and more

Ah yes, you know you're a Firebird owner when your car winks at you.

A few years down the road I plan on changing the color (Sunset Orange Metallic)... always have been a fan for the black and gold myself.

Re: Post pics of your car here!!!

Oh, why not, I'll bite.

This was taken back in January, right after i got the hood sealed up with some paint right before all that rain we had. Everything single thing on her is a work in progress, both inside and out, including the hood, which isn't done yet. School is keeping me pretty busy (and broke) though, so there probably won't be any more major work done until after finals in a few weeks. I'll get some better pics once I get her cleaned up. She's filthy right now.
