Third Gen Vinyl Roof Hard Top, "Black Knight" Edition
Third Gen Vinyl Roof Hard Top, "Black Knight" Edition
Greetings Folks!
Was hoping someone could clear up a mystery for me...
During 1995 or 1996 in Albuquerque, NM i had a buddy in high school that was restoring an early year Gen 3 Firebird originally from a local dealership.
What was unique about the car was its all black color scheme and black vinyl roof. It had badging indicating it as a Black Night special edition.
Has anyone heard of similar unique special editions? Has anyone seen a factory option vinyl roof Gen 3?
Did local dealerships make their own special editions?
I know Gen 2 models sometimes (rarely) came with vinyl tops, but I've never seen other Gen 3s like this.
Thanks!

Probably an aftermarket conversion. I'm pretty sure factory vinyl tops went away in the mid 70s on fbodies.

A friends dad had a "black knight" challenger in the mid 70s, early 80s with the same look and hand lettered "black knight" on the sides. Custom stuff he did to it.
never understood that but to each their own.

The 1970 Mustang mach1 this then 17 year old bought in 1972, had an aftermarket "Houndstooth pattern" vinyl roof. It matched the "Dark Ivy Green Metallic "paint. It's front fenders had the faint remnants of letters, mostly buffed off, that read "Cloud Nine"!
Of the 55 vehicles I have owned, I miss the mach1 the most!
