Checking for cracks, clearancing, etc.. I'd like to get recommendations before I start picking randomly out of the phone book.

There's only one place in town I would take my engine:
Criss Engine and Machine
3231 East Michigan
741-0302
Talk to Mike Criss, the owner. He absolutely knows his stuff. He's built my 305 twice!! Tell him I recommended you.

uhhhh...yeah im a little late on the reply eh? if you are still looking of a place to go,you might try,lol kinda ironic,Larrys Engine and Marine.I dont know the address/phone # but its in the phone book. They did all the enigne work for our nova, they mostly do hot rod/drag cars and marine engines, but they are pretty knowledgeable on their stuff. If we ever have a problem with our car,we can call them and most of the time they five free advice-since our engine isnt stock(ever heard of a factory 396 big block on a 1963 nova?) we take it back their to get it tuned up-it is impoossible to tune- and and they get it running perfect.
