Black & Blue...

I spent Sunday up at my Parent's cabin making another batch of nylon guides. I was nearly done sawing the guides when I took a HARD hit. In the blink of an eye a 5/8" thick x 3" wide piece was kicked back and caught me in my upper thigh. The funny thing is the piece rebounded off my leg and wound up back where it started adjacent to the saw blade. I was really surprised considering it was the free piece that caught and kicked on me and not the piece beween the blade and fence rail. Of course I was working alone in the shop when this happened. Doubled over in pain, I managed to shut off the saw and vacuum dust collector. My Mom showed up just then to let me know lunch was ready. I iced the wound down during lunch. Later after finishing the batch of guides I changed for dinner. I was surprised to see a 2.5" x 5" black and blue mark! I shudder to think if it landed just 2" further left. Thankfully my manhood is intact and undamaged.

Well first off always wear the eye protection Lon, of course you know how that goes.. Good thing you did not loose an eye or have to go to the emergency.

Hearing protection and eye protection were in place. I didn't know I'd need a flack jacket though. My Dad suggested his Kevlar chaps he uses for chainsaw work. lol
