Since we been kinda on the subject Lt1 intake

O.k first off the lt1 intake is illegal to put on our cars here in Cali? Is that smog wise or plain out simple illegal all together.
So you would have to completely convert to lt1 comp and all to be able to swap legal?

I have seen with a nice cam that this intake is producing some very nice numbers..
kinda interesting..

It is smog. You can use a lt1 intake on a third gen, BUT you have to include all of the fourth gen smog equipment from the ecm out.
The intake is part of the smog control system, and you can't legally mix and match smog parts.

It wouldnt be legal, mainly because of the EGR, but also the BAR considers an engine setup (like LT1) as an entire emissions 'component', so the intake would only be legal if it was on an LT1. You'd have an extremely difficult time getting the referee to approve it, its hard enough just dealing with a swap let alone taking specific parts.

Well from that It seems like the easier route and safest route would be buying a 4th gen and Mod it with a specific cam Im thinking and see what the numbers pull.. Atleast I have learned what a lt1 intake can do and why.. I drove a 4th gen once before and Man did it have some kick.. It boosted off like a rocket even with the 4l60e the shifts were extremly awesome. So i could amagine Lt1 headers head porting and cam that motor can produce some great numbers.. The engine base is already there with the lt1 intake unlike Tpi needs Super ram or high flow runners Plenum throttle body.. I don't know I just have that urge for a 4th gen and I want to learn more about them. Im in the position where im thinking a newer car would be best for me. Not just for the performance, but the newer car smell

If you are going that far, get the LS1 instead.

A ls1 is expensive to mod and parts are expensive, a Lt1 is much cheaper, and It can have just as much potential as a ls1. Headers for a Ls1 are expensive and cam. Lt1 headers are less cam is less and the car is a lot less itself. With a Lt1 with a cam port work and headers and exhaust is well good for 360 rwhp that's more than I would need for a nice daily driver in the future..

Or with an LS1 ... just add a cam and tuning (~$1000 installed) and you are there. An LT1 doesn't have the same mod potential as an LS1, the LS1 will always give you more for less invested. But if you have an HP goal and don't care how much you are going to invest ... do the LT1 ... or L98. Either you pay up front the extra cash to go fast ... or pay it by investing in mods. Just the newer cars are more reliable at that HP level than older cars, because they were designed with much more power from the factory.

Well Gpl you once told me before that the Ls1 was very expensive to mod. And the Ls1 was over rated or take that back you mentioned the SS was over rated, as a Z-28 is less expensive.. No matter what on a Ls1 or lt1 headers and exhaust is going to be a price.. Say like the Slp tri Y headers I have, if I were to pay for them new and total install would be 1,000 or more.. That converter you bought for your Ls1 im sure cost 700 or more and if needed installed $150 or more. So no matter what engine Mods are going to cost a price but a lt1 is a liltle less and the total car is less, just as the comparison with the Z-28 and the SS with the Ls1.. Nigel mentioned to me before that it would be better to put money into the 3rd gen rather than buy a newer car.. But I have to look on the side view of this. A 4th gen is way more comfortable for the lady and im sure with the more horse power the car handles it nice and smoothly. My car is like a fight every where I drive, Kinda like it's a wagon on beat up wooden wheels. Yeah Im sure there is reasons the car is the way it is and things could be fixed, But it's been 4 years or so I been spending money on these cars and Im back at zero again. I have boxes of receipts spent thousands of dollars and I don't even have a car that is putting out more than 290hp.. But I have all kinds of parts just sitting there waiting for money and completion, just spinning my wheels and going no where. So I think when time comes Im going to need to study this new car thing real good. And make a good choice.
