This is sort of along the lines of Tellez' post, but I decided to make a new one.

If you get any schmuck who tries to talk you into racing on the street, impolitely tell them to FO. The police ran a 'sting' operation and nailed 1 guy in what appeared to be an average thirdgen from the video footage. Give me a break. This stinks of setup from the word go. While these worthless figureheads sit around with nothing better to do than bust us one at a time and steal our cars from us, many prime locations for racing go by the wayside, are closed for the winter, or closed for good. If they really cared about safety on the street, and wanted to have less street racing, they'd get off their revenue collecting asses and help get some legal racing events for these people to go to. This is the birthplace of drag racing, and the population here is well into the millions... and we have how many racetracks in LA and Orange County again?

So, word to the wise. Some guy you dont know tries to talk you into a street race, tell him you dont race revenue collectors out "legally" stealing peoples cars. Thats the polite method. If I am approached, I will be far from that nice about it.

 

It's probably a similar attitude to the "War On Drugs" we hear about. The politicians "say" they want to end illegal drugs, but in the end all they try to do is snuff out one spark at a time while the forest burns.

I suspect it's the same with street racing. How many jobs do you think it creates to have a street racing "task force" or sting op? It's job security. Not to mention it gives them fuel to request budget increases each year - "Well, this street racing is out of hand. Building a race track is silly, we just need more money to fight it on the street."

 

It costs less to catch street racers than to build another race track, plus they get more revenue from tickets that way.

Plus, they dont care about the quality of the tracks we do have. I'm sure they figure LACR is good enough for all of us to race on. We have LACR, Fontana, Irwindale, Carlsbad, and Famoso, what more could we ask for?

 

Just to add to this. Here in San Diego we've (local car clubs) have tried to get some of the "racers" to join in an effort we had going down here to get a local track built. And not just a drag strip. There's plans to build an entire racepark. We've had a lot of private party (corporation level) interested in building it but the problem is we don't have support from the private sector. Local attitude from people who don't race is that it will cause more street racing having a track cause the kids will have the adrenaline rush after racing and continue it on the street when they leave the track, And get this. The attitude of the "new racers" in other words those out there who are new into cars and think they're 4 bangers are fast is "why should i pay to race when i can do it for free on the street" That's the problem we're having. Honestly what they need to do is actually set up a street in an industrial area that they block off just for kids to go run on, free of cost. We used to have a place like that but one of the loving mothers had it closed down because her kid was at the races watching and fell outa of a tree and broke his arm, therefore the "organized street racing" was dangerous. Even though it was set up by the city and the Police. This is always going to be a problem for as long as they make cars that are designed to go 100+mph and the police and city of course will do what they can to clean up the issue like stings and BS tickets for crap like exhaust and the fix it tickets. Bottom line it's best to go to the track and there are plenty to go to especially in the LA, OC area. San Diego has the parking lot known at the Q for street legal drags which don't happen enough and like i said it's in a parkin lot so there's no traction what-so-ever, and The new track at barona which is very expensive for an 1/8 mile track in my opinion. All in all this is always going to be a problem. Not much can be done without a whole lot of people gettin together and solving it. Which has been being tried ever since street racing has become a "real" problem. What i wouldn't give to go back to the days of racing in the 50's-70's. And no.. i'm not that old. Those of you in the Los Angeles district and others should send letters to Rocky stating that providing a drag strip would be more constructive than running stings and confiscating cars.
