I need a good welder in the SFV...
I have some Corbeau seat brackets that need to be modified. Basically I want
to have the mounting tabs cut off, shortened by about 3/4" and then welded
back on.
Can anyone recommend a good shop to have this done?

Axle/Gears: 3.45, 3.27, 3.27
You can hacksaw them off. Bad news it the backet is hardened steel. Not full-hard, but harder than mild steel. I can weld them back on, but I'm only a half hour closer you than Don.

I can cut off the tabs with a cut-off wheel on my RotoZip. So that's not a problem. I'd then just have to cut the tabs down, then head over to your place to be welded back in place. We'd also probably want to sand blast the paint off at the welding points.
Nick gave me the name of welder/race fabricator close by so I'll probably give him a call first and see what he says. If it's too pricey I'll bust out the cutting tools and give TDS a call.

No problem. The equipment is sitting idle. Just call to schedule an appointment. The sand blast cabinet works like a breeze now that I have sufficient air volume and pressure to drive it.

What is your schedule like this week? I may have Thursday and Friday open. Also, what does Saturday or Sunday look like?
I have a call in to the race shop Nick referred and I'm waiting to hear back. In the event it doesn't work out with them I'll dive into the project myself today and/or tomorrow.
I've got an idea for a jig that will help simplify the welding process and make it easier to maintain the all the correct geometry.

I heard from the race shop. Current quote via our phone conversation is $60 to $100. 
I'm going to swing by and show him the brackets so he can get a better idea of what's invloved. $60 I could probably live with, but at $100 I hear my RotoZip warming up.

Ridiculii (pl. for ridiculous). But I understand, time is money. You're welcome to come by here and use my welder and blast cabinet. Bring a rattle can of satin black to paint ti after the modifications. Call ahead. I'm busy sorting out the pallets of SFC's from the Group Purchase and will be taking them to the powder-coater. My electro-hydraulic pallet-lifter worked like a charm. We had to pull one pallet off the back to get to mine. Luckily a neighbor happend to be visiting when the truck arrived. With 3 of us it wasn't too bad moving a 1000# pallet.

I went by the shop the Nick recommended - Rebs Specialties in Reseda and spoke with the owner Eric. He was pretty familiar with what I wanted to do and mentioned he had done the same procedure for Nick.
So, after thinking it over I decided to leave the brackets with him. He's better equipped to do the cutting involved than I am at home and I also figured that if he makes a mistake, he has the material handy to fab a new mounting tab rather easily.
I think sorting out my garage is next on my home "to do" list so I have better access to my work bench. I also need to pick-up a drill press and professional grade vice. I saw a really nice fully adjustable degreed vice at OSH for $50. A ban saw is sounding like a good tool as well. I'm also tempted to learn how to MIG weld.
My brackets should be ready on Monday. This darn seat is turning into quite a project, but it should be pretty sweet when finished.

dosen't do sfc. i think don is probably the most proficient in sfc installation because the chassis has to be loaded. irocster had a muffler shop do his at a shop around here (he lives a few blocks from me) and can probably give you that address. his came out really good. my welder does more of the industrial stuff. his name is david mas. his shop is called micro-tig and he is certified in heliarc, MIG, arc welding, and silver brazing. his address in 748 east edna pl. covina, ca 91723. his phone number is 626.339.7017 and his fax is 626.339.4644.
