I got ripped off today

I rented a car trailer from U-Haul for one day. I was supposed to bring it back today @ 12 but I was late by 45 mins. Guess what? They charged me $50 for another day. 50 bucks for being late 45min. Give me a break

sorry to hear they didnt give you a break, most places are like that.
they tried to rip me off not too long ago by telling me and insisting that my car insurance wouldnt cover their pick up truck in an accident. it was so bogus!
i knew it was covered but they insisted that it wasnt, not only to me but to my insurance co. the uhaul guy told them it was a large truck! so of course the insurance lady told him it wasnt covered, but when i practically yanked the phone from him to tell her that it was only a pick-up she laughed and got the guy on the phone.

the guy was a jerk with me after making a fool of himself in front of a long line of people who might have bought the insurance from them.

i made sure to check for dings on the trucks before taking it.

You should have taken the trailer back and insisted that since you were paying for a second day that you would use it.

Unfortunately most rental places have that same policy. If you're late returning it, you get charged an additional fee.

I like Russ' idea. You should have told them that you wanted to continue to use the trailer since they were charging you for it.

Contact u-haul direct, the local managers try anything they think they can get away with.

When we moved Chris back from college it was xmas weekend.
The Ryder bitch in santa ana tried to charge me 2 extra days, saying they were open on sat, xmas eve, and Sun, xmas day. I knew they weren't as the Ryder guy in Fresno said we had the truck till mon no extra charge since all yards were closed sat and sun.
She backed down when I told her if she didn't call ryder direct I would call from the payphone outside. "Well, I guess we can waive the charge this time". I still called Ryder and they said that is the biggest complaint they get from customers, dealers overcharging.
