I have a vortec motor from a 97 Seirra, would need the SDCP intake manifold for tuned port - but as you can tell by Don's awesome results its a solid performer!

I wonder if this engine would be smog legal?

Technically it is not smog legal, but if you install a Corvette style egr, it will pass. Most smog techs just look for the right smog parts installed on the engine, and run it on the roller to see if the numbers come up good. They just can't keep up with all of systems on the market to be sure it is legal, so if it looks stock, or has a carb eo#, and has all of the pieces that the computer from Sacto says it should have, it passes visual, then it just has to make the numbers.

There is no such thing as "cheap" and "performance" together. "Cheap" and "rebuild" together usually are followed by "broken" and "walking home". Good luck.

The ZZ4 heads are the same as the Corvette L98 heads, which do not have any EGR ports. Hence the need for the "Corvette EGR setup".

ok, i thought of some specific questions that maybe someone can answer.
1) the vortec heads came stock on some year trucks. what kind of egr did those trucks have and how did the valve work? also, compare the amount of exhaust that was allowed to pass through that style EGR compared to the stock f-body EGR say off of a q jet carb.
2) since the corvette EGR it tapped into a primary, is there anything between the tapped primary and the carb (yes CARB, i wanna know for my application) that regulates the gas flow?
3) a little more broad question: exaclty what components make up a corvette EGR system and how do they work as a part of the system.
if you dont wanna answer these questions, please dont respond with a flame telling me how much i dont know. i already know that.

#2-I'm not sure, but I think there is a solenoid valve between the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold. On a carb the egr would tap into the intake manifold below the carb.
#3- I think the components consist of a tube from the exhaust manifold to the egr solenoid, the solenoid, and a tube from the solenoid to the intake manifold egr port.
i made this thread to find out about the corvette EGR. i copy/pasted what russ so cal said, but if anyone else wants to put in what they know heres the link

How about a 99-02 Camaro/Firebird 3.8 V6 for $350?

The trucks with Vortec engines have an external EGR hookup on the driver's side.
