Ok, So my family has a British auto shop downtown san diego and i herd of ppl putting jaguar rear ends on there cars for racing..... My question is "Would a rear end from a jaguar XJS or XJ6 work on a 3rd gen? And would it be worth it?"

lol i kinda dont expect an awnser cuz its pritty odd but anything helps.

We have a chromed jag rear end in our 28 model A. It's a popular hot rod show car type of upgrade. It's an independent rear end so if installed and set up correctly it should help any car that doesn't have independent rear suspension.
I think the new vette's independent rear trans axle would be the ticket these days.

Cars + $ = anything can happen.

It would be a huge job with lots of fabrication.

I pulled this site from a post that appeared years ago on TGO, I think back in the days when we had a non tech board on the site.
www.rareautodesign.com. They put a Vette rear end in a third gen Firebird. The last time I saw Zac, he mentioned riding in a Third Gen that had a Vette rear end. He said it was noisy and rough riding. Of course one thing to keep in mind is that the more movement you have in a suspension system, the stiffer your frame needs to be.

In addition to what Russ said, you might want to try a search. This issue has come up before. Now going by my very fuzzy memory, there are serious issues regarding the gas tank, among numerous others, when you try to adapt an IRS to a third gen.

Rare Auto Design thought about putting out a kit to adapt the Vette rear to a third or fourth gen, but there wasn't enough interest by people with money. I think they offer an instruction booklet with prints for the parts that you will need to fabricate for the installation.

I would think a Jag rear end in a third gen would be a rather daunting task... besides dealing with all of the IRS issues, the disc brakes are run on the inboard side of the axles, not the outboard. That, combined with the location of the panhard bar assembly, seems like it would just complicate the issue even further. However, Dwayne is right- throw enough money at it, and you can do anything you pretty much want to with a car!
