California Rain
This morning I see 3 car accidents total of 10 cars involved. Come home at noon; see 5 accidents with about 12 cars involved and an older Mazda RX7 doing a couple of 360’s in the middle of the highway a few feet from me after he decided I was going to slow and decided to floor it to past me on the RIGHT lane even though no one was on the left passing lane. . The thing that gets me is that one mile from my house, I see 4 cars by the side of the road and 1 car being pulled from the road which had about 2 1/2 to 3 feet of water. Of the 5 cars, 1 was a Ford focus and the other 4 foreign models. Well I pull over the side of the road in my truck to help the stranded motorist. What I find that all cars had CAI. Hopefully these individuals will learn from their oversight and will pass along their wisdom to their friend with CAI that is 1-2 feet off the ground or better yet not use their cars when raining.
yeah i love watching idiots in their suvs go hauling *** past me when its down pooring thats why i try not to drive when its raining. plus my shift kit isnt to rain friendly. people need to learn going 80 on the freeway in rainy weather is just plain stupid.

Exactly why I do not drive my cars in the rain unless absolutely necessary... I don't feel like getting rearended and losing another one of my cars again.

Its funny here in SoCal...
We have earthquakes, riots, and fires, and people could care less. But as soon as a drop of water hits the ground its "STORM WATCH 2004" with that being the top story on every news channel and their stupid reporters with their yellow slickers.
Then cars start running into each other like its armageddon.

My Job being "FSP" (freeway service patrol), i'm on the freeway from 6am to 7pm straight in my towtruck. I work with the CHP to deal with all the idiots on the freeway. trust me, i've seen it all. I helped to clear several accidents today, and it's only gonna be worse tomorrow.
Rain that will do it.. Just tonight one of my sisters got hit from a person making a left as she was going straight across the intersection on a green.. But the car is pretty much totaled.. luckily she is ok..

Glad to hear she is ok. Don't jump to conclusions about her seat belt because she broke the windshield with her head. I was rear ended in a Dodge Dakota pickup while wearing a seat belt, I broke both the windshield and back glass with my head.

Oh geeze.. That must have put you in a deep daze.. Crazy thing I have a cousin that was in an accident just like this but she was the one making the left.. As she had plenty time as she said.. A speeding car came and hit her and made her car flip and the air bag blew her hand out the window and as the car was upside down dragging down the road it was taking her arm away.. hibby jibby.. Now that was in a 4thgen Z-28..

I forget which Nascar truck driver it was, but he hit the wall out of turn 4 and his helmet bent the gear shift, they figured his head and neck stretched almost 18 inches.
Now he's a NBA star.

I too was involved in an accident, seating in the front passenger seat with seat belt. Driver took a 35mph curb to fast and ended up going over the embankment which was a about an 8 foot drop. Driver's head breaks the glass t-top, I somehow hit the rear view mirror and end up with 8 stitches on my forehead. From my understanding, a car accident exerts more G-force then a pilot doing a hard turn.

I don't know about how fun rwd are in the rain. As I have hard enough time keeping my rear end intact and making a left turn and just have the car spin out.. Im down for the dry weather better..

Its not that we dread rain, more like driving our cars in the rain out here with so many who dont belong behind the wheel when it dry. Our cars are all of the age that any significant damage and the Insurance companys want to "Total" them.
Just last week going to work at 4am doing 60 its pouring down and I'm getting passed by cars and trucks doing at least 25mph more than I am. What can they be thinking. I thought 60 was pushing it.

Rain probably won't be much of a problem for a while now. What people don't realise, especially people from places where it rains a lot, is that in So. Cali. it doesn't rain for months at a time. Then after 8 or 9 months without a drop, it rains, and all of the oil that has built up in the pavement over the past 8 or 9 months floats to the surface of the street. Rain isn't bad to drive on, but when you hit a monster oil puddle, it doesn't matter how fast you are driving, you'll lose it. We've had enough rain last week to pretty much wash the oil off the road, so it shouldn't be bad for a while.

Not to mention, in most of the country when they have a rain storm, doesn't it last an hour or two, not all day?
I have a question. What do you do when you come to an intersection full of water and you can't go around? I just try to get some momentum going through, so I don't stall. It's fun to make a big splash. But I can remember people (like my folks) telling me to keep my foot on the brake, etc, to keep the water from getting in. Is there anything to it? I figure it doesn't matter, the brakes will get water on them anyway.

Drum brakes will not work when wet, thats why people ride the brake when going thru water, since disc brakes are always rubbing the disk it isn't necessary, but you should always check your vehicles braking ability after driving thru water.
In a flooded condition driving thru fast increases your chances for getting water in the engine and stalling the engine. Best to turn around or drive thru very slowly. This doesn't work when some idiot in a jacked up 4X4 flys past you and drowns your car.

Oh, I see.
(I have disc in the front and drum in the rear, eventually will be all disc.)
I guess no more belly flops into the dips.
