Need some parts...
Hey guys and gals!
Long time no see! I'm finally done with my BS, and it looks as if I have a job lined up, so now I don't have any more excuses not to participate more often!
Anyways, my bird is in need of some serious TLC. I have a new water pump that's going in tomorrow, but I also need an alternator and fix a few leaks (Yes! I've been driving it like this since the end-of-summer cruise!!! Filling it up with water every/every other day!)
I might need to have some work done on my brakes as well. The whole car shakes and vibrates when I hit the brakes. Feels like a jumbo jet taking off, with the same creaking, cracking plastic sounds. I believe the pads are fairly new, so I'm thinking it's the rotors that might need to be replaced.
Any suggestions?
I need to pick up the alternator today or tomorrow, so local companies only, obviously.
If all else fails, I will have to go to Kragen and pick something up from there.
The rotors and/or brake pads can wait, so those I could order online if that would save me money, allow for better parts, etc. I don't take my bird to the track or anything, but I do push it through some corners going to and from Big Bear every so often and I have had some problems with the brakes overheating (even though I was riding in 2nd or 3rd gear going down)...
Thanks guys and gals!

I got a brand new GM AC Delco alternator from Valencia Chevy when we were having our meetings there. Its lasted 4+ years. Before that I went thru 5 rebuilds in 4 years. Stay away from the rebuilds and spend the money on a brand new one from GM. Dyno Don can probably get you one on a discount.
You definitely want to replace the rotors and get that checked out right away. You dont want to hit the brakes, then hit the car in front of you!

Thanks for the reply.
Time is definitely not on my side, and it looks like I'll be forced to grab a POS alternator from Kragen tomorrow. When I get tired of replacing them I'll go with the genuine OEM GM alternator.
As for the brakes, they aren't quite as bad as I might have depicted them to be, but I'm looking for suggestions on rotors and pads. Any good combos out there that you guys have found?
Thanks,
