Trans went out on me over the weekend

Well my cars Trans finally went out after 123,000 miles lost 3rd and 4th I had to drive from Glendale to Downey on 2nd gear. Now should I build up another auto or install a 5 speed? Either way my car will be outa commission for a wile.

Mine went out a couple weeks ago. It's the 3-4 clutch pack.

Sorry to hear that. If I were you, I would build that 700r4, and not waste money on T5.

I'll most likely redo the 700 and fix her up real good. But for now I’ll just have to wait. Hey has any one of you switched out your auto for a T-56 and regretted?
Just a thought to help me decide. Hey 400Z28Racer why dont you like the T-56?

Building up the 700 is a good idea.. t56 swap is a lot to get set up, and they also have there known stock problems.. Then your adding swap problems.. You can buy all your performance upgrades through online.. affordable pricing.. Take the trans down to a known shop for a bench build.. I have heard of prices starting at 500 and they will build and upgrade everything you bring.. Myself and Ivan are building my transmission ourselves.. were just having fun with it.. It will be back together and working just as great as any shop would have done a bench build.. So gaining the experience is always a fun thing to do..

Good luck with everything

I did not say anything against T56. As a matter of fact, I'll be swaping a T56 in year or so.
You do not want to swap T5 because you will regret it. They are not tough enough. In your case, rebuilding 700r4 is cheaper than swaping T56.
I hope this will help, Ivan

Going brand new there is a bit price difference.. I guess depending the application also.. All I know is partial information I have heard.. Probably things like clutch set up.. Forks and all those known names of problems.. For me.. The flywheel would be a big expense..

So saving buying all the 700 parts online and if you really wanted to go all out you upgrade even more hard parts and further research information.. And it's still less cost and time in the end.. With the savings you can upgrade your converter to the Best.. And that's including Trans Braided lines.. cooling system also.. So what do you do with your change? Well clutch will go out in the t-56 sometime.. I buy a core 700 and build a back up..

700r4:
- labor =$600
-parts =$250~$350
-convertor =$350

total =1200~1300

As just aprox. A new t56 Tremec is what 2,200? How much for a flywheel for our engines.. Mines 300-400.. Were doing a swap so what's the pedal cost 100? master cyl. mods might need required.. additional labor cost if shop is doing this swap as yourself is going to want it done right.. 700r4 your doing all the labor yourself on the install.. bench labor cost 500.. 600 probably for known places and higher.. But you provide all the upgrades and replacement parts.. Get down to it it's around there somewhere.. So basically thats the starting point of the diffrence of cost.. So you could build 2 700r4's fully upgraded bench built at the intial cost of the t56 swap..
