I been trying to fix my car for a while now but cant seem to figure out was wrong change a few things but same problem so i was wondering of one of you guys could come down and help me or atleast tell me whats wrong wit it ill pick you up and pay you for your time now that i got my taxes and gonna have extra money
Symptoms of car turns on idles really ruuf then turns off has really no throttle response but if u hold down gas it will not turn off
things i change spark plugs, spark plug wires, iac valve was told that it might be the maf sensor but couldnt find a way to check it and dont want to go buy one then find out that that wasnt the problem
so if anybody could help me i wil apreciate it miss driving my car thanks

 

First question — is the "check engine" light on at all?

If it is, then the computer will have a Trouble Code stored. That code will tell where to start looking, rather than throwing money at it.

MAF problem will turn on the light and set a code.


From your brief description it sounds like you have a vacuum leak some where. Check for any cracked or broken rubber lines on the intake manifold and the Evap. Canister.

 

well when i jump it it gives me no codes but i did have my battery diconected cus it died so they might have cleared ill check for cracks and broken lines see if i see anything O and i also changed fuel filter and check fuel pressure and it was fine

 

Have you checked to see if there's any exhaust coming out of your tail pipe? The catalytic converter on my '85 T/A got clogged up (back in '90) and the symptoms you describe are almost identical.

 

took a look at the hoses didnt see any crakked or broken hoses but gonna double chek that because i could have easily missed something and i did get exhaust from the tail pipe what else could it be

 

you said you did plugs and wires... are you 100% sure you got all the cylinders right?

 

yea im sure i did the plugs and wires right it was doin exact same thing before i changed them too just that i found couple wire were burn so i thought that was causing the problem

yea is a tpi 5.7 the intake tube is on there good cant figure it out ima record a video and see if i could post it so u guys could get a beeter idea cus im tired of seeing sitting there wanna drive it already

 

i had the same problem u have and it was the maf sensor i still have the problem but i also didnt want to throw my money away not knowing what was really wrong with it. so an easy way to check your sensor is by disconecting the plug and if your car stays on then its your sensor thats the problem. your close by so if u want to see my car how it acts when i hook up the sensor private message me with you number. hope i helped.

It should turn on the SES light and set a code 33 when you unplug it.

 

Have you run the car in the dark with the hood up to see if you have any ignition problems? It may seem silly to ask, but since you didn't mention what exhaust headers you have, could you have accidently fried some of your new wires on a header? Did you use silicone grease on the boots when you put the wires onto the plugs? Did it possibly create a seal that pushed the boot right back off when you installed the new plug wires?

 

ok discconected maf and car didnt turn off anymore so i guess it was the maf causing the problem ses light did turn on but once i get new it should go away right? Also i was getting some sort of popping sound not sure what it was u think the maf being discconected caused it or maybe because i messed with tps guess i have to adjust it
russ i have stock headers ill check for any ignition problems too maybe that could cause the popping sound also because i dont remember using grease on boots i did use the grease on sparkplug tread so they wont get stuck but not on boots
hopefully that was it for my problems

 

Did it ever set the SES light before you unplugged it? MAF trouble, be it the sensor itself or the relays, typically trigger the SES light and trouble codes of either 33 (MAF Sensor), 34 (MAF Power Relay) or 36 (MAF Burn-off Relay).

A new MAF Sensor is not a cheap part, so I'd hate to see you drop money on it only to find out that's not the problem. The relays are only around $10 each.

MAF Sensors are usually parts you can't return either. Once you plug it in, you own it.

 

no never had an ses light on so what else could be causing it dont want to waste money if i dont have too

yea but car doesnt have plates havent been able to smog it and well im not sure if it will make it dont want to get stranded but im check out how it runs with maf disconnected and ima pm don

 

i changed the maf and now car doesnt turn off when maf is connected i tried clearing the codes but i keep geting code 33 which is the maf why do i keep getting this code

 

You turn the key off and the car keeps running? Ok you definitely have some kind of electrical issue now.

 

it does turn off with key off i guess i didnt explain myself i meant before car would turn off and idle real bad then i unplugged maf and car wouldnt turn off anymore but i would get code 33 so i got a new maf plugged it in and car stays on now but i still keep getting code 33 eventhoug i put new maf and cleared the codes my ? was why do i keep getting code 33 what else could be wrong

 

The guys who are more familiar with MAF cars will have to answer. I'm clueless on this one.

 

this maybe a dumb question but is there any holes in the ducts or air getting in past the MAF?
