Gas prices

Everyone like the new gas prices. Increased gas tax and sales tax.

If not, vote against your State legislator at next election.

BTW, the May ballot measures are ALL tax increases, even though they dont say that in the summaries.

Re: Gas prices

I will be voting against all the measures. With the current administrations energy policy especially against fossil fuels I expect the gasoline prices will be above $4 a gallon in the not to distant future. After all it is unfair that we have such cheap gasoline prices compared to most of the rest of the world. I see in Venezuela the price is 12 cents per gallon.

Re: Gas prices

Don't the gas prices go up every summer anyway?
What's their excuse this time?

Where have you been???
Sacramento raised numerous taxes (for one year) 4 days later they wrote these ballot measures to extend them 2 or 3 years.

They raised
Vehicle license fees
gas tax went from 18 cents to 30 cents a gal.
sales tax up 1% to 8.75 here, 10.25 in Pico Rivera
and some others.

BTW sundays paper had a breakdown of how a $20 cell phone ticket becomes $132.
$20 offense
$35 courthouse
$25 security
$ 1 night court-if you use it.
$26/$10 in fines for penalities and assessments.

IMHO it should be a lot higher and put points on your license. Then maybe people would hang up the phone and drive.

We need to vote all the idiot politicians (idiot = all) that are up for reelection out of office this next go round. Not only have they raised a bunch of new taxes when unemployment is at an all time high but they have done nothing to decrease their frivolous and irresponsible spending habits.

Oh, I thought the recent increase was to do with the usual summer increase, or some other vague reason.
Like paying for the new nozzles.

I like the cell phone law, its been a long time since I had to sit behind somebody driving real slow, on the phone!

Re: Gas prices

What's even worse, is I see police officers (In marked and un-marked cars) talking on the phone, holding it up to their ear... How does that make sense?

Re: Gas prices

Cops are exempt from our laws, just like the thousands of govt workers with "info unavailable" status.

Those new nozzles are ~$10K each to the station owner.

Re: Gas prices

Julie, there may be some increase by the oil companies but most of it is the recent tax increase.

Re: Gas prices

We're having something similar here that comes into effect next July, 2010. Harmonizing the GST and PST (our TWO sales taxes...) into one big one. So we'll be paying a tax on top of a tax still (cause we have tax in the price of gas, which is then taxed again once you pay at the till...) but we're paying MORE with the bigger tax.

Pissed? Yup.

Julie: I agree, and I can't wait for our law to kick in. Someone going 90 in the center lane on a 100 speed highway makes me mental. I don't get uppitty as much if they are in the slow lane, but it's still annoying.

They had to find some money somewhere to establish the new budget. Tell me again how Arnold was going to do better than Gray Davis?

Re: Gas prices

Arnold turned into just another politician: Say anything to get elected, then do a 180 once in office. Its sad, because I thought he was an outsider who would work to fight the system. His four anti-union bills were great. Once they were defeated then he just went along with the status quo.

Just remember, the liberals are in charge here in California, so if you dont like what's going on, blame them.

Please vote no on the two props, 1A and 1B. They're just another tax increase, a way for the gov't to get more money from our pockets. Ask yourself, what did the politicians do with the last bonds and taxes that were made laws? Why do they need even more money now, and why do they always cut funding for police, fire, and schools instead of cutting their paychecks and benefits?

And this has nothing to do with thirdgens, does it?

Since 3 of the 6 bills are vehicle taxes, yes it is.

Vote no on all. All items 1A thru 1F are tax extensions.
You wont find that in the summaries but they are.

The leglislators passed 6 "temporary" one year tax measures, then 4 days later presented these bills for special election in May, with deceiving titles and summaries.
One takes (borrows in their words) lotto money destined for schools and directs it to the general fund. I think its called the lottery upgrade act or some such BS.
