hopefully it wont happen again. maybe its the supplier they got that wires from. it was possabily defective. the company i work for makes defense items for the government and theres times(a lot of times) where we get bad products from our vendors. It happens.i know our vendors suck maybe GM vendors suck too. hopefully thats all it was and it wont be a major problem.

I call BS, lets see more sources.

Anything can happen once. The possible causes for the problem are many, and it may just be a factory worker doing the cable installation wrong, and quality control mising it. I sure would pay any dealer a $10,000 bonus to get one though!

GM, Ford, and Chry all get crapy parts from vendors daily. This is the reason I have a job. Originally Posted by Klawson

Yeah, who makes better parts, the Mexicans, the Chinese, or the Indians? Are any parts still made in the USA?Originally Posted by sccavette

i would agree that we need to start using more american made parts but if you think about it if we did use all american made parts how much more the cars we are buying will cost, since we, as a country, already over charge for everything at it is.Originally Posted by Russ-So Cal

You would actually be suprised that there is still a lot of vendors still in the US. When it comes to the best parts it would be the ones coming from Japan. Not only does it seem they have fewer problems they also are quick to correct any problems they do have. I would have to say the worse parts come from Mexico with some of the US vendors a close second. Most of the Chinese parts are sent through a US based company and not a direct ship to the assembly plants so they will actually come to the plants under a US based company name.Originally Posted by Russ-So Cal

I have worked in all the big 3 plants and just about every Foreign car plant that is located in the US and some in Mexico. There is a BIG difference in the way the foreign plants are compared to the big 3 plants. This has a lot to do with the UAW however that is a totally different discussion.

It is and it's not. Due to ridiculous labor overhead, the domestic manufacturers are all about cutting costs on out-sourced parts and assemblies, and passing their problems on to the vendors. That is why all the "small" stuff on domestic cars falls apart and is incredibly cheaply made. Somebody always has to pay the price somewhere, there is no free lunch. Originally Posted by sccavette

Ironically, now the UAW and the current administration (that unions had a large part in getting elected) are major stockholders in GM, so expect more of the same.

TA, I could not agree MORE! They are beating the heck out of the vendors and the ones here in the US are dropping like flies. I have a 2 page list of vendors to the big 3 that are either closed, closing or going through BR. I also agree with the Gov and the UAW having control it will NOT get better.Originally Posted by TA

So if we dont make things here, we have no factory workers spending money and eventually all we have is execs, accountants and food service jobs here and everything else is outsourced.i would agree that we need to start using more american made parts but if you think about it if we did use all american made parts how much more the cars we are buying will cost, since we, as a country, already over charge for everything at it is.
What many dont realize is that for every dollar of product we import increases our national debt if we dont export a dollar product. You can make and sell a million widgets but you can sell a idea only once.

its the people's fault for buying foreign cars in the first place. For starters we're on an uneven playing field, foreign manufacturers don't have all these retirees to pay pensions to. The ford plant here used to have 5,500 workers, they have 800 now. Labor's already been cut, they've been forced to cut in other places now. Tax the foreign cars (like they do to us in their country) and it will help. All the UAW ever did was provide the american worker with a fair wage, safe work enviroment and ability to live the american dream, they aren't killing GM, the people with their toyotas are.
very true

notice they are going to change the route the cable takes. that appears to be an engineering fault. a frayed cable is not engineering its the man who put the thing on the car.
the foreign comp is killing us on labor costs. ours is about 75.00 per hour, japan in the us is 34.00 an hour. china, well that 10 cents a bullet if you dont make your slave quota.
but in 80 i bought my wife a brand new FB and within 48 hours the trans fell out. then they could never get it timed and it ran like crap all the time. years later we found out they had been putting camaro engines in them but the mechanics did not realize it and there were some problems with the carb. i should have realized that something was wrong when the dip stick was on my camaro side.
but we still bought new camaros - 7 in all. but i would not wast my time on this new one - looks like a japan look alike, wanna be car.
