Re: Dyno Day

whats is the drawback or consequence of running without a filter, i've taken mine off from time to time and found my car runs way better. wonder if it would make a difference on the dyno without a filter ?

There is microscopic dirt in the air. Short-term running w/o a filter, like doing dyno pulls is not significant, but if you run w/o a filter long-term, your rings will be trash in 10-20K miles.

The fact that it runs better w/o the air filter tells you that you need help in that department. Even the best filter restricts a little, but it's better than rebuilding your engine every 20K miles.

K&N makes air filters, but they do not make a whole air intake kit for our cars. The SLP intake has been discontinued, so you'll have to find one used.

That means its dirty and needs either cleaning, or replacing. We only take our air filters off while at the dyno or the drag strip. On the street there are a lot more harmful stuff that could damage your engine, as Troy said.

Sorry, I dont log in everyday, so PM's are a horrible way to get ahold of me. Use email, as I check that several times a day.

Don and I changed the distributor in my car last weekend, and made a few test runs and it did not seem like it was breaking up at 5800 rpms. We wont know for sure until we get on the dyno again. If there's room, I will. If not, I wont bump out anyone else.

Hey Kevin we can set up another one before we go to Famosa. Maybe limit it to the first 5 or 6 cars.

I'm sorry I do not do TBI tunes anymore as I cannot get blank chips for them. I have not had any luck erasing the stock chip. You'll have to try http://www.tbichips.com/ or http://www.fastchip.com/ .
Or the best bet would be to check out the TBI board and get one of the EBL computers. It turns your TBI computer into one that can use flashable chips.

Have you done any tuning with an EBL and if not do you plan on it? I believe that TPI's can also use the EBL.

Still, Kevin, when you get a chance, I would like to get my tune tweeked... Let me know when you would be available for it.

the list keeps getting shorter, i'l be there as a spectator for sure, if theres alot of no shows, i'l jump in and take someone's place, working on last minute things with the car trying to get it ready, still need to install the aluminum driveshaft and afpr although im not sure it will make much difference since the car still has many things wrong with it, but i need a starting point to work from

Re: Dyno Day

Julie, the dyno shows I'm nipping on your heels. Watch your mirrors. I got a nearly 20 hp jump by simply removing the intake tube that goes from the throttle body to the filter. I'm making a trip to Lowes & Home Depot today. My first run was with my current chip settings. Hp was 288. By the third run it was just under 300. Removed the tube for the last run and got 318+ hp. Sorry, I don't recall the torque values.
