Street Roll Bar

I just received my 4 point street roll bar today, after a 6 week wait. Here are some pictures. I will install it soon and post more pictures of it (installed). The car is red with black/grey interior I am contemplating painting the bar a different color so it stands out. What do you guys think?

Re: Street Roll Bar

Do the rear bars mount to the top of the fenderwells? Looks like they could be bad news for a rear passenger.

there had better be NO rear passenger, it would be a death trap.

is that bar for a 3rd gen? looks like it bolts in?

Re: Street Roll Bar

Yes, the rear bars bolt on to the rear fender wells and they have backing plates, the bar is a bolt on however I plan to tack weld aswell. This car is not my DD and no body ever sits in the rear there is no space back there really, the rear seats are in perfect shape due to that.

The bar is made for 82-92 F-body.

Re: Street Roll Bar

Looks nice, is that an Autopower bar? I can't really make out the name on it.

As for painting it, I'd just leave it black, or maybe paint it gray so it matches the interior. I wouldn't want it to stand out, but that's just me.

Thanks. Maybe I will just respray it with a flat black, althought wrapping it with fabric would be pretty trick. I wonder if I can find material that is similar to the fabric pattern used on the original seats and door panels.

Re: Street Roll Bar

I am currently constructing a 1987 RS street/ circle track. its a little difficult fabricateing things for a circle track car when you want it to still run on the streets. Looking for an 8 point roll. Anyone have any ideas of a website to contact for one. checked google and yahoo but no good quality products yet. If curious have two engines, one is a 390 big block built loose. sounds like crap on start ups but once the metal expands, maaaan she'll tear round the track. A simple 355 forged rods and keith pistions topped woth arp bolts and a peice of junk one rebuilding, maybe a 383 some lovely input would be grand, wanted a 383 since i was 17. Heard alot of hype over them wanted to see what they were about.

Mikey I agree with you I am going flat black. I already prepped it. Now I need to go get some rattle cans.

I got this one through autopower, have you checked their site? Give them a call they might be able to make something custom if it is not on their catalog. I do have to warn "they are not the most economical".

No updated pics yet sorry. I was planning on istalling it this weekend but some things came up. I have to get some stuff completed before the bar is bolted in place. I should be able to install it next weekend and I will try to take pictures of the process and post them. I have done it once before on a cobalt.

This part # is around $620 tax and freight included, to the public (or you can pick it up in San Diego and save the freight which is $60.00 to LA). I have some connections with Autopower and did not pay full price. If you are seriously interested in thier product check out the webpage and send me a pm on what you like. I will let you know what I can do.

Camaro & Firebird (all years!) back seats are just like fire extinguishers use only in case of emergency!

Re: Street Roll Bar

Got around to installing the roll bar this weekend. It was pretty straight foward 16 bolts a couple of backing plates and done!
No not really. I actually tooK most of the interior apart in order to pre-fit the bar and drill the holes acurately. I found out I need new drill bits (new ones would have made the job much easier). After I removed most of the interior paneling I adjusted, drilled holes and bolted the bar on I wanted to weld as well but decided not to in the end. I then removed the bar and put the interior paneling back on. I cut the holes in needed in the paneling and went for a under carpet instal on the floor panel part.

Re: Street Roll Bar

Yeah no one will sit in the back anymore, as long as the bar is in place. I was back there when I was bolting the bars and there is very very little room back there. It is really hard to get in and sit back there, you have to bend your back really bad to slide under the cross bar and once you sit down the bar is about 1/2 a foot away from your upper chest and neck. NO BODY will sit back there now, the car is now a two seater, bacK seats have always been for looks.lol. No "emergency" use either ...

Re: Street Roll Bar

Thanks guys, I really like the way it came out. I am sure it would look great in a vert. All I need now is the foam padding for the upper cross bar, I already have it on order and I have to make some covers to clean up the wheel well panel holes I made.
I had contemplated taking out the rear seats as Mikey stated and making a custom audio set up. But that would be veering away from my plan of keep it stock looking but slightly modified.

I found these pictures in another thread. It looks like the bar for a vert mounts different. I dont know who made the one in this picture but it looks good, maybe just in a different color.
