Kevin or Dyno Dons, they specialize in TPI... I think they would be your best bet... and if that's the waiting list you're referring to, based on what I've read here on TGO, I would wait it out...

Re: tpi tech needed
What, specifically, is the issue? You can get tons of pointers on what you can do, yourself, right here on the boards. Do you 'wrench' and do you have tools and a good shop manual? If so, you should be able to work out a few bugs while you are waiting for some more experienced help. Time, elbow grease, patience and, you know, $$$ will fix your ride.

Re: tpi tech needed
Well honestly, i love to get my hands dirty and I've built engines before(350 for my 70 impala) 454 for my 64 deville) but for some reason this. Dam 305 wont budge...

i built the stock Tbi and it was a disaster... crakn broke on the harmonic tip...decided to rebuild again... but this time tpi was in my road and decided to convert as well a t5 ...got it done..looks stock if u ask me...when it was done we cranked it and it took a while to turn on, like if it wer a carb on a cold snowy day... finally we got it ran it and it was an excellent relief as well an exciting feeling..but there was a problem, at idle it kept popping. And when we pushed on the throttle it would* POP* and struggle till 1500 rpm...jerrywho came by and check it out and said the valve train needed to be rechecked we adjusted the valves 15 times no lie, and it still won't stop the popping..so we decided to get a new cam we got a 1000 to 5500rpm..

When that was swapped we went again ...same issue but this time headers wer getting too hot and the plugwires were catching fire even those dam plugwire blankets...sad days for me and i want them gone i hate the bucket im currently driving and i get so envious when i see a parade of thirdgens cruising by and all i got is an 87 civic with an iac problem lol

Re: tpi tech needed
Make sure the cam & timing set are installed correctly, that is, use either a piston stop or the 'finger-over-the-sparkplug-hole' method to make sure the #1 piston is at or near TDC on the firing stroke, then check the marks on the timing set so as to be certain that the timing set / cam / valvetrain are in synch with the piston events. Also, make sure the timing mark on the balancer is still in the correct position, as the outer ring on the balancer has been known to slip, which makes using the timing mark inaccurate for indexing the timing set and for setting the ignition timing with a timing light.

If you're running a new timing set, then I would look into your distributor if you haven't already... it is 20 years old if it hasn't been replaced already...

Vince may have hit the nail on the head here.

I have had that problem before, it will pop and bang if the gound wires are loose.

If that doesn't take care of the problem, I'm pretty sure it's the flux capacitor.
