A New ThirdGen Mechanic

I have a friend that just opened up a speed shop.

His name is Gene Jones his shop is located in La Habra at 1080 South Cypress La Habra Ca 90631. His number is 714-650-0042 He has been building a thirdgen since the 80's. He now has a full out Supercharged Thirdgen. So he is highly experienced with modifications and engine building. His first customer was a 2009 Jeep with a 426ci Hemi. He installed the motor and is doing the tuning. So he can perform work on other makes.
So he is looking for clientel. So if your looking for a mechanic and need to find a better quote. Give him a call.

Yeah thanks Kevin, well anyway's good luck with everything. This post was just a nice favor and that's all. I have not been around for sometime. I have not been able to do anything with my car since the economy took a dive and priority's have changed.

Coincidentally ran into Gene and Brian at a burger joint today when they spotted my Camaro. We got to talking and I ended up checking out their speed shop. Man was I in for a treat, these guys are legit. Check out Gene’s ride:

It's always a cool to know a good trustworthy mechanic. And this dude Gene seems like he knows his (3rd Gen) stuff!!!

I will definitely keep him in mind when those difficult repair problems come up.

Me and Gene use to race toghther back in the early 90's at Terminal Island. He bought that car brand new in 89. That is the factory paint if I remember correctly. I have seen the car go 12.01 on NOS in 92. The best Ive seen was 11.19 @ Carlsbad with a 406cu with a Super Ram, old style AFR195s.

Re: A New ThirdGen Mechanic

Good to hear that some of you now know where Gene's shop is. And that some are already interested in getting some work done to there car.

Gene has to make it out to Irwindale to get some business and pass out some business cards. As he is not near any foot traffic. The sooner the better for him.

Re: A New ThirdGen Mechanic

I'm sure if Gene can build race cars, he will have no problem doing simpler street builds. Some people are cool with 12 second cars but some of us have bigger goals. Gene's super clean 8 second 3rd gen is far from impressive!!!

Don I may give you a call regarding exhaust. A body not a 3rd gen but its still just tubes and welding.

Cali-hope things take off for your friend in these times. Good to be competitive but to be too cheap draws in problem customers btdt.

Ask Gene to make an account with TGO, that way you wont be stuck being the messenger boy.

You forgot "street legal 12 second cars" , some people have bigger goals that don't include environment issues.

12 seconds is fine but when you have factory cars like 2011 5.0 running mid 12's let alone the Nissan GTR and Z06's running 11's stock and 10's with bolt-ons 12's just isn't enough.

Back on topic, this is a thread regarding a knowledgeable mechanic not smog-legal 12 sec TPI's.

Re: A New ThirdGen Mechanic

Brenden I just got his info thank you. I should get my clutch this weekend and ill be ordering a merge for the exhaust.

Its funny how all my questions regarding emissions were IGNORED in that old thread of the battle of the extensive reasearched tpi platforms vs the modern tech lsx.

Anyways.. Race car vs street car.. doesn't matter. you build what you wanna build with the time, money and opportunities that are present.

Back then the car ran 11's on NOS and was still able to be driven on the streets. It wasn't an all out race car yet. I've been known Gene for 20 years.

No Im not the messenger boy, You all have all Gene's info to get in touch with him. All I'll be doing is bumping the thread.

Regards to smog, most of you already know the parts and combo's that are street legal and 12 second combo's. If you build a combo and it's out of smogs range that would be on you. Don mentioned Gene is good for race builds so pay attention to what you are building and research or ask some questions.

This is why they wont let us stop doing smog for our classics. But all an all we can have what we can afford. The only place Gene needs to drive that car is around the race track. Last I heard he was thinking of breaking the engine down and check things out. Im hoping that he is to busy to do that now. I guess he already has some Et's so I guess he could tear it down. Oh and btw Gene has painted the car twice.

Well new news from Gene since I last talked with him. You might want to contact him for parts. I just recently checked with him on a set of Afr's and the ones I was looking at are the 1,500 heads. Well I wont say the price but you can call him to find out on 3rdgen performance parts new. So thats another great step for him and the buyer. We gotta save all we can with this economy.

Been over a couple of times. Gene and Bryan are a wealth of information and will take the time to answer your questions. They also work on EVERYTHING. In fact getting the brakes done on the Honda

I just have to convince them that the *lowly* LS6 heads are just fine for a daily driver ragtop and that ill never see 7k RPM

Website coming soon.

Yeah I seen a list of items you where looking for. I just dont think those parts out there with in a 100 miles. This is not a parts economy much any more. You will have to buy more than heads for a ls6. I can Rev 6800 no problem.

I don't think you saw my list cause we haven't made one yet. I'm still working on it myself. Ive got the shortblock worked out, will run the 243's and an ls6 intake. Bryan will spec out a cam and do some magic to the heads. I'm "ok" with 450hp and 26+mpg. The expensive part is all the Spohn stuff.. Some of that might have to wait.

Yeah if you dont have it correctly I heard you could have tire wear. Yeah you better get both kinds of sub frames. The Alstons and the side rails. You can check out mine and Gene should be able to make them, Don did.

Re: A New ThirdGen Mechanic

Gene helped me out the other day and he always pulls through being a close friend. My Malibu housing gasket was leaking. I had done my oil change and cleaned everything up and seen the oil housing leaking. As I see that it has just three bolts and it's right onto the block. One bolt will not be able to be removed because the lower A.C is there. We had to take that off luckily it was three bolts only but I tell ya what a lot of extra time just to do this. So I helped Gene install a Fuel Pump in a toyota p/u and everything for me was no cost, I even drove him some where to pick up the pump and I bought him lunch.

So yeah Gene is doing good. He doesnt have enough thirdgen work how ever. But he has one that has a Holly Stealth Ram and the computer for the tuning. He says it's going to make 650 hp. I told him more in the 580 range an yeah thats rwhp.

Cali-hope things take off for your friend in these times. Good to be competitive but to be too cheap draws in problem customers btdt.
If it's a thirdgen Gene knows what to charge no matter what you want or need. Gene is a good bussiness man.

If it's foreign Gene knows what to charge. Gene has all the software for just about every make and any repair the Labor cost and part cost. So Gene is doing good.

Now if you need an oil change Gene cant supply the oil and filter for the cost of Jiffy lube. It's 120.00 for synthetic and a lucas oil he charges.

So yes in certain ways he is just having fair prices. And other ways he can give a better break.

So this is a Bump for Gene for a lucky 2012. Good Day All..
