URGENT NEED OF An Expierenced THIRD GEN MECHANIC in the SAN DIEGO Area

My 350 25th anniversery z28 has been running horribly and backfiring for the past year or somewhere along those lines.
The car just has absolutely no throttle response.

I've had three mechanics work on it and still no answer.. when I bought it about 2 years ago it was very fast and ran fine...

PLEASE any help
619-985-5159

Also have two other thridgens one needs a clutch and has a gas tank leak.

And the other hasn't been started in a few months cause the battery died.
Also the car hasn't shifted past 2nd gear so it has drove in about a year or 2...

But the 2 of them are dailey drivers so please any help

There arent any thirdgen mechanics I know of in San Diego. They're up in Orange County.

See the "SoCal Thirdgen Friendly Companies" thread.

Thanks for the reply
I'll check the shops out but I'm more of just looking for someone real familiar with these cars and who could diagnose and maybe fix it ..because I don't want the stealership to have to figure it out.

So it drove fine and then one day out of the blue it started to run bad? Maybe when you changed the oil or something, you moved a wire or broke a sensor connection?

Does the service engine soon light come on when you drive it? Check to make sure the wires are good and snugly on the correct cylinder.

Dealerships and mechanic shops didn't know these cars well back in their day, they aren't going to help you today. These cars need TLC and owners who know them. If you have 3 cars, and they are all TPI, that is a good thing. You can use parts off the other ones to figure out the bad parts.

Where at in San Diego are you located?

Re: URGENT NEED OF An Expierenced THIRD GEN MECHANIC in the SAN DIEGO Area

In obd1 cars, misfiring won't trigger an SES light. In my 1994 T/A, I would get horrible misfires above 5000rpms. No SES light. It turned out the coil and/or wire was old and rusted out. I swapped in new ones and it was good to go.

So it really could be something as simple as a criss-crossed or a bad wire.

Really I did not know that a misfire wouldent cause a SES.

Good to know how could I check if one of the coils are bad with a. Multimeter?

Im not sure how you can check to see if the coil is bad. I just replace them every few years. How long have you owned this car and have you ever replaced the spark plugs and wires?

Re: URGENT NEED OF An Expierenced THIRD GEN MECHANIC in the SAN DIEGO Area

Chances are the o2 sensor is fouled as well. Which will cause the motor to dump in even more fue, thus drowning out spark, causing some driveability problems like you are experiencing.

But in my opinion, without knowing the history of your car, it just needs a decent tune up. New distributor cap, ignition coil, plugs, wires, o2 sensor, fuel filter, air filter, oil change. And have the timing set. Unplug the battery to reset the computer and see how it runs at that point. Even if it doesn't fully solve the problem, it will run better for sure and you eliminated stuff to check on your list.

Are you still running the stock gray injectors? Do a search on this site for them, and how to test the injectors.
They are notorious for going screwy.

Go to C4guru.com and page Central Coaster, he lives down by you.
Knows the TPI somewhat well maybe he can help.
