Which serpentine belt is L98 1988? Here

Which Belt is for the 88 Iroc-Z L98 Smog an Air.. Is one of these for a Tbi?

ACDELCO Part # 6K945 {#88932790} K06 13/16" x 95 1/8"
BELT,SERPENTINE BELT DOES NOT RUN DIRECTLY FROM CRANK TO A.P., W/95 1/8 IN, Belt Outside Circumference; 2 DOORS

ACDELCO Part # 6K980 More Info {#88932798} K06 13/16" x 98 5/8"
BELT,SERPENTINE BELT DOES NOT RUN DIRECTLY FROM CRANK TO P.S., W/98 5/8 IN, Belt Outside Circumference; 2 DOORS

Dont understand the A.P or the P.S p.s Im thinking power steering.. The belt runs directly from crank either way, Kinda confused.

1988 was a one-year only routing of the serpentine belt. The belt routing changed in 1989. The same belt is used for TBI or TPI. If your car still has the sticker showing the routing of the belt you'll understand how it was installed. The easiest way to solve this is to take your old belt with you to the store.

Ok thank Lon. I atleast learned that. Yeah I still have the routing sticker so that's ok. I should have a tape measure but cant seem to find it. I was going to order online from Rock Auto I have some other parts as well Im ordering from there. Yeah I think best would go to the parts store with the belt like you mentioned. One Auto store Im staying away from is Auto Zone. I bought a head light for my Malibu. It was near 20.00 for the light. I move my light and it came on. I guess it needed to be taken out off and put back only. And Auto Zone would not give me a refund because it not being in orignal package. I guess being opened. My wife actually tried to deal with the about return in less than 5 minutes and got no where. So they will never see my business again.

What do you think about the AcDelco steering box? Is that our orignal steering box? Rock Auto has that part for a fair price also.

I'm a big fan or replacing items that need replacement when they have ended their life. Of course a wear item that could leave you stranded such as a serpentine belt should be replaced before it breaks, but unless the gear box is giving you trouble or can't be serviced I'd leave it alone. Replace the fluid if it's been a while. I haven't yet replaced the steering gear box in any of my cars because they are still operating trouble-free. I am not able to give an opinion on a replacement.

Yeah I should have replaced the Belt when I had the motor built. It is cracked bad. So surely dont want to keep running it. I understand about the service. Gm has told me that it needed replaced. I have a lot of play. The steering round thing,,hmm cant think what it's made out of but it's on the steering shaft. looking at that seems fine. I know we have talked about that being worn before causing minimal play. So hmm yeah I think Im just going to replace. 150k miles I think it's well to me the part is due for something new. I guess Im just going to try the Ac Delco..

Well got the power steering pump removed with the assembly of course. Going to take it over to a trans shop and get it cleaned through the washer. Then Im going to degress the front of the engine. More to come later. Next removing the steering gear box. Hope I have the correct tools to remove that, I have not checked into what it all intails for removal..But Im glad that the Alt an all was not that hard to remove.

Re: Which serpentine belt is L98 1988? Here

My neighbor today comes up saying hey I know this isnt stock. I laughed an he came and checked out the Iroc-Z.. I informed him what it was etc. He drives a 08 Mustang that sounds pretty mean for a stocker over 300 hp.. He said I did want to make it 400hp but decided to keep it like it is. I said yeah sometimes it's better just to leave them alone.. He then says wow you must have a lot of money into this car. I said yeah a little. He asked did you build the trans. Of course yeah it cost about under two grand.. He says I used to have one of these.. Well your lucky you have that nice Mustang now. He says it's just an 08, I said still runs like a new car.. I guess he heard the other day me rev it up an checking out what that water pump was doing. My neighbor is a lady and I guess he is the boyfriend. He comes over about everyday goes swiming then goes and works out.
